Worlds away…

When Luthor stepped through the portal back into his trusted Lexcorp lab, he immediately breathed a sigh of relief. It was unfortunate that whatever had happened on that other world had undone his plans. It had looked very much like someone there had interfered with the timestream. And Luthor had correctly reasoned that only a return to his own home dimension would spare him being caught up in the temporal wave undoing events. After all, everything in this world he had accomplished it himself. It was not dependent on whatever path Osborn had pursued. Well ultimately it was of no real consequence. It just meant that he would have to begin anew in some other dimension. And perhaps one day if he found out whom was responsible, he could return again to that place and confront whoever it was that had undone their plans. Yes, and then there would be a reckoning.

As it turned out though, Luthor did not even have to wait that long.

<SHRRARRRZZZK!> All at once a blast of energy surged towards Luthor, striking his dimensional vortex manipulator with the resultant blast knocking him off his feet. As the device shorted out before him, he looked back to see who it was that had dared to attack him. What he saw chilled even him to the bone. ‘No, no it can’t be! Not him!’

“Lex Luthor! Your day of reckoning is at hand. Turn now and face your fate, at the hands of Doom! Your vortex generator has been disabled. There shall be no escape for you this day. Even now, I am undoing this insidious web of control that you had begun spinning over your opponents. For there is nothing that you can create, that I cannot destroy. Your plans are undone. Beg now for your life, and perhaps I shall be magnanimous with your defeat.”

“Beg? What are you talking about? What are you even doing here? This is not your world!”

“I could very well say the same to you. Your interference on my world, making alliances with that cretin Osborn, seeking to upset the delicate balance of powers that I have allowed. How dare you interfere with the fates of those that I determine! And if that was not insult enough. To observe your dealings, seeing you act as if you thought yourself my equivalent? Even boasting that your intelligence surpassed any on my world? Fool! Your intelligence would scarce match even that of Richards, let alone compare to the majesty of Doom. Your own misguided arrogance has brought this fate upon you Luthor.”

“But I meant no disrespect! As you gathered, I too have observed you Doom. And we should not be enemies. Just think of the possibilities that could be garnered by us pooling our resources together in one united business venture. We could control not only our own worlds, but any other that we journey to. Infinite Control of the Multiverse could be ours for the taking!”

“Poor misguided fool. Do I think I would need the likes of you to accomplish this? I have already controlled my own world through mind control in times past. It was…dissatisfying. There is no challenge to be had…ruling a simpering population of docile sheep. No, a true conqueror wrests control, defeating those who would oppose him and forever proving himself their ultimate superior! Then as the populace realises the true magnificence of their ruler, as the subjects of my beloved Latveria have already done, then and only then, would I grant the world the wisdom of my rulings. That is the path of a true ruler. The path that belongs to Doom, and Doom alone. For although there may indeed be some equivalents between our worlds Luthor. Similarities of fate, and even some individuals, there is only one Doom! Thus those that cross me do so at their peril. Watch now as I tear all your plans asunder. For even as we speak, my pawns are freeing all those that you had cowardly enslaved from afar…”
