Infinite Control...11 — Description

Deep within the heart of sovereign Latveria, a sinister figure has been observing the machinations of Norman Osborn and Lex Luthor, and has at long last decided the time has come to intervene.

<Communications link established…>

“Wha? Doctor Doom! What is the meaning of this? This is our Priority Emergency channel, for Avengers use only. How did you get access?”

“Your outdated security measures are of no relevance Avenger. We have far more pressing matters to attend to. Tell me Captain, are you perhaps missing some of your erstwhile team members? …Particularly those of a female persuasion?”

“Our active roster is no concern of yours Doom.”

“Hold on Captain. It has been a while since we’ve heard from Janet, and Carol also hasn’t been in touch in some time. Come to think of it, Spiderwoman seemed to go off the grid not long after that too.”

“What are thou suggesting Iron man? Do you expect some peril to have befallen them? Is that why this villain has contacted us?

If that be so, then listen well Doom! If you have abducted our team mates, then thou shalt feel the righteous fury of the Avengers unleashed!”

“Sigh! Captain, if you wish to truly find out who is responsible for your missing team members then you might wish to keep your Asgardian bulldog on a tight leash. For I have little patience for his histrionics…”

“Od’s blood! You dare to speak to...”

“Wait a minute Thor, Let’s keep a cool head and find out what he has to say first.”

“I’m with Iron Man on this Thor. But if it is indeed Doom that responsible then he’ll certainly soon be regretting his words. I promise you that.

Ok Doom, you have our attention. Get to the point!”

“It is far better if I show you Avengers. Pay close attention to the feed I am sending you. For therein lie the true architects of all your heroines’ fall from grace.”

“Now just what do you mean by…wait! Is that Norman Osborn?“

“Yes it is. And although I don’t recognise the businessman he’s shaking hands with, the stunning red head on his arm is Mary Jane Watson, the actress and super-model who..erm…we have a passing knowledge of. But Norman Osborn is the last person I would have expected her to be cosying up to. Something isn’t right there Cap.. “

“Your armoured comrade is correct Captain. The woman has been subjected to the same process that has been used on your missing team members. For Osborn’s scientists have come into the possession of MODOK’s old Mind Ripper technology and they have been using it with wilful abandon on any heroine he has been able to possess!”

“What!?! Are you saying that’s madman’s mind-controlling them?”

“Exactly. And with the encouragement of his new found business partner he has been using them to fill the ranks of his new formed strip club the Glamour Slam, as well as it’s neighbouring bordello.”

“<Gasp!> That…that monster! We have to put a stop to this…right now!”

“Only fools rush in Captain. If you did so now, then thanks to the accursed Reed Richards you too would likely end up as will-less pawns of Osborn and his partner. Richards’s carelessness has led to his entire team being reprogrammed. And now that he serves them, he has been increasing the effectiveness of their technology, even reducing Osborne’s Mind Rippers into hand held rifles. No, this is not the way to proceed Captain. We have to cut this whole sorry state of affairs off at it’s point of origin, before it could ever gain such a foothold amongst your ranks..”

“Before…but how?..”

“Hmm...Captain, I think I see what Doom is suggesting. He's talking about using time travel to undo these events. For Doom does have access to temporal technology. Trust me I’ve experienced his time platform first hand, and it's certainly a very dangerous journey to take. But right now I’m more interested in this mysterious partner of Osborn’s. The device on his arm, if I’m not mistaken that’s some kind of portable dimensional technology. Am I right Doom?”

“Yes Stark. It’s about time you realised the significance of that. This intruder from another dimension, is none other than Lex Luthor, a name which I believe the Asgardian has some recent experience of.”

“By Surter’s fiery realm! My friends, This Luthor is the very same villain that conspired with Amora, attempting to pit myself against that other world’s most mighty champion, Superman! If it was not for the fast-thinking of the wondrous Diana, there could have been dire consequences indeed for both of our worlds. But how do you know of this Doom? Surely you don’t have eyes in the far flung hallowed halls of Asgard itself?

“Doom knows all! And in fact your Enchantress has also played a part in maintaining their den of inequity on this world too. So perhaps you should be more concerned with the imperfections of your dungeons, than how I was able to glean this information. In any event, it matters not. If you truly wish to avert the fate of your fallen comrades, then you and the Kryptonian will need to follow my instructions. For though Osborn himself is an inconsequential foe, often bested by the insect wall crawler, he has of late enlisted some powerful protectors. And it is those two whom you and this Superman will have to take out of the equation.”

“And what will we be doing in the meantime Doom? Just standing by. Waiting for the fight to end?”

“No Captain. Myself, you and Stark will be journeying to this other dimension. For even if we prevent Osborn’s schemes, this Luthor has been enacting similar plans in his own home dimension for some time now. And with the dimensional technology he has stumbled upon, I believe it is only a matter of time before he again attempts to extend his influence to this world and beyond. He must be taught a swift lesson, in how unwelcome his interference is here. One which Doom shall only be too happy to provide!”
