Description
The setting of light in this picture is called "Butterfly". It's very effective and easy to set - a large softbox is placed almost above the model's head, she looks directly "into" it. (Tip: Actually she's looking into the empty space next to it, so she won't be as blinded by the light). This lighting doesn't work as well with every model, it depends on the facial form a lot.Model: Nina
Vienna, 2002 (when I was young and still classy)

I lreally like this photograph, particularly the lighting. I'm just starting to use artificial light, and your explaination above really helped. What did you use as a backdrop?

Well done. Pretty neat for an old picture. I must also admit that the pointer posted in the description is great, I don't know anything about portraits but have been looking to learn. If you post enough it'll be like a seminar for me .
Cheers,

I would say if you're going to want to highlight her face I eoulf make sure that everything besides her face was in darkness (like her clothes). Rother than that great shot. Also maybe some emotion on he face.

I tried to darken her clothes so everything was black - but it didn't really look good.
