It's been a year since the 'three weeks to slow the spread' statement graced our ears during the peak of the coronavirus pandemic. A year of sweeping governmental control, myopic medical procedures, and the single largest transfer of wealth seen yet.

Most who have bear witness to the redundant and asinine social distancing measures either assume your lacking empathy, or that they are doing it with the best intentions of protecting others from Covid. A customary look at the number of relative cases compared to deaths, as well as countries and states that don't enforce these lockdown policies like Texas and Sweden would put doubt to these claims of doing it for the greater good. Then comes the shaming; they call you selfish, a conspiracy theorist, or worse of all, complicit in the spread of the disease, as they proceed to obey every measure without questioning it.

Ironic; those who deem to be against authoritarianism and fascism often seem perfectly willing to accept whatever the government tells them to do, based on 'the science' backing it up. Wear two masks? sure thing, despite the initial claim that wearing a single mask would work, despite scientific research dating back to 2015 detesting the validity of even using one. Vaccine passports? sure, let's put what is essentially a gold star on any would be person who hasn't taken the vaccine in a attempt to coerce and shame them into doing so, because to those who have allowed fear to control their lives, it's for 'their own safety'. If anything, the labels they throw equally apply to them; selfish in wanting others controlled for their own benefit, conspiracy theorists who need these quarantine measures to be validated by any lab coat who says exactly what they say, and worse of all, complicit in the stranglehold of overreach under the guise of good intentions, while being snitches for said powers that be to anyone who doesn't cowtow to it.

The rules never made sense, because they never were meant to; it's the trial phase of just how dependent you will become to the whims of the government, be they these lockdown measures, the welfare state, or stimulus packages you will inevitably waste on needless materials. Those who wish to keep this quarantine going for as long as it remains palatable wish to damn your sense of self accountability as well as the means of risk assessment; everyone must be equally afraid, diminutive, and forced into the same box that of those who have willingly put themselves in. Otherwise, you're 'selfish', and the other pejoratives follow.
