Description
This is my first attempt at an epic landscape contrary to my usual work which is on a smaller scale. This is only another step in my efforts to improve myself. I would greatly appreciate any advice that could be given in order to better my skills which are somewhat lackingRelated content

I think you need to take some time to study skies and clouds. Do a search for skies on DA or Google images.

I would have put more texture on the ground. Shrubs and trees maybe.Β Things I could have made smaller as they receded toward the horizon.

Hope this helps.

Quite nice but for ME it doesn't look "epic" yet. It's pretty cool though. I'm going to uh... TRY give advice. I'm not a speedpainter myself but I hope my opinions/views help anyway.
First off I would like to talk about the background. Personally for me it looks weird to have the mountains straight like that, almost cutting off the path. It would be interesting to have an even FURTHER horizon in my opinion.
Next, the cliffs themselves. They to me are mostly fine. However I would suggest maybe making a view maybe looking up slightly to give that "large" perspective.
The clouds are nice, I would have personally done thinner wispy more misty kind of clouds.
Now to the more serious bits. The thing with epic scenes is that you need to give a sense of scale. Or else it ends up like a fractal. To give something a large feel you need to have things that look MUCH smaller in comparison.
I personally feel that the ground you painted looks a little too close up rather than far away.
The rocks in the middle of the painting are fine, and I can see what you are trying to do with them, but they just look like ordinary rocks, this is probably due to the fact that there is not much to compare them with.
For example, I can see you put little shurbs next to the rocks, yes those help to create that "epic" feel, but I don't think it is enough. You could maybe put a little stream or small house or maybe small adventurer next to the rock, maybe only being 1/6 the rocks height (Referring to the spiky rock in the bottom middle left part of the painting).
Another thing that looks weird for me is the clouds in the background, they have a nice texture but perspective looks a little off due to them not really getting smaller, they all look the same size to me in the background. Whereas the ones in the chasm look like the get smaller. However the biggest cloud in the chasm looks a little too big even. You could have made more but made them smaller.
Also I'm not too sure where the light source is, is it the left or right or middle? It looks like the rightish middle to me. If you put it more right you would need the cliff's shadow much more dominant. I don't see a cliff shadow so I'm a little confused.
Furthermore a few more things you could do is add maybe some trees to add to scale.
I think that you could also define the right hand side a little more where the grass meets with the mountain, it looks just "painted" on at the moment.
These are just what I see. I mean I'm not sure if I'm 100% correct, but thats just my personal opinion, take it or leave it I don't mind. You can try some and let me know if I'm wrong .

Why thank you for all of this! This is extremely helpful. I didn't consider some of this and now I will when working on my next piece!
