PREW I made it and it actually looks half decent It definitely fits my vision for the entry and capturing the rays of the rising sun, so I'm happy about that Unfortunately, I wasn't able to finish my agility entry due to unexpected health issues getting in the way, which is sad because I really did like the concept of it and what I wanted to poke at with the story, but oh well, maybe I can use the sketch for a training prompt.

Australian Futurity 2024. This was Antoine’s second time participating in this grand event filled with seasonal shows and of course the championship at the end. The first time around, he had entered with his beloved stallion The Bloody Baron or Rohan, as he was nicknamed. The pair had had their challenges during that first time, especially with Antoine’s scepticism to even work with the stallion in the first place. Ultimately, he had warmed up to the steed and they had finished the top 3 at the championship. But they still had quite the journey ahead of them and it seemed worth it every step of the way, despite the times Antoine had rolled his eyes at Rohan’s less pleasing quirks. He had big plans for the two of them and those didn’t stop at Rohan specifically. Presently, one of those plans included a new prospect; Rohan’s progeny, a sooty palomino stallion named The Anguished Man, or Guise for short. To Antoine’s dismay, the others had been calling him “Gushy” and other obscene nicknames that the stallion now responded better to than his French nickname. They had simply given up pronouncing the name, even with Antoine’s unsolicited corrections. He rolled his eyes so hard whenever he heard them baby-talk this promising colt using these nicknames. But even though he wanted to zip their mouths shut, he simply couldn’t and had to begrudgingly live with it. Luckily, the colt’s nickname wasn’t the one to get called on whenever it was their turn in shows.
Carrying his previous experiences from the previous Futurity with him, Antoine hoped Guise would turn out as great as his sir, if not greater. He kept a keen eye on the youngster, internally comparing every little thing about him to Rohan. And Guise already showed a likeness to his sir. That much was clear here on Newnes Campgrounds where they were participating in the first seasonal show of the event. The young colt was curious about everything and everyone, wanting to check out every new plant, animal or person, slightly tugging Antoine in different directions. The perfectionistic man shortened the stallion’s lead a few times, rolling his eyes. It all felt familiar, and the nostalgia soothed a bit of his annoyance. Despite all the familiarity, some things were clearly new to him, because when was Antoine ever nostalgic? It was a bit puzzling and he quickly brushed it off, not wanting to let it affect his judgement. He drew hard boundaries with Guise, especially when the youngster seemed taken with less friendly-looking wildlife. Antoine even thought he saw a snake at the edge of the arena and immediately steered them away with some resistance from Guise. It made him shudder slightly, not because of the potential danger, but more so the thought of how slimy those oversized worms must be. Safe to say, he didn’t know much about snakes and one couldn’t possibly mistake him for an outdoorsy person either with the way he avoided the thick foliage and most dirt patches. The slightest bit of dirt staining his clothes would have kept him up at night. Ok, maybe not literally but he wouldn’t like it. Everything was to remain neat and polished. There was no room for dirt especially since they were participating in this halter class. He looked over at Guise who stood still by his side for once, a perpetually worried look in his eyes. If he didn’t know any better, he might have thought Guise wasn’t feeling good about the nature around them either. But he did know better and this was just how the youngster looked most of the time, even when he was calm. It was one of his unforeseen quirks. When it was their turn in the class, he side-eyed any horses they passed with this worried expression. Antoine himself was almost actually worried that it would affect their score. But the youngster was calm aside from his want to greet the judges and any surrounding animals and horses. To prevent that, Antoine kept him moving and focused especially when they eventually trotted around the edge of the arena. If the rising sun didn’t illuminate the arena so gorgeously, that might have been another thing he was pretty annoyed with; The way the light shone in his eyes. Fortunately, he could turn his face away from it, granting only slight annoyance at it. And so, he could keep focused on their class and present Guise well for the judges.
After their turn, Antoine halted Guise and led him to their spot again. This seemed like a good time to discreetly eye the competition. Of course, he had been doing so during the entirety of their time at the show and he would continue to do so. Maybe he would spot the other progeny of Rohan, or maybe some interesting, affluent-looking people to keep an eye on. This was a new batch of entrants after all and he was eager to get a good look at everyone. As expected, there were some familiar faces but also a lot of new faces. People of all ages, it seemed. He was mostly looking for anyone worth talking to and wanted to keep tabs on who made it all the way to the end. Those were the real competition
