In preparation for the upcoming seasonal show, Antoine and Guise had been boarded a few weeks in advance at Sea Dragon Stables, the same stables where the colt had been raised from birth. They had made ample use of the stable’s training arenas and it had gone well for the most part, albeit Guise seemed extra distractable and unfocused when Antoine worked him through the basics for Dressage movements. It was becoming clearer that he preferred faster, high-energy training and exercises as opposed to the more contained nature of Dressage training. Their surroundings seemed to catch the young colt's attention more when Antoine worked them towards a more Dressage-oriented training. A subtle indifference would wash over Guise, something only a keen eye would be able to spot, especially when dealing with such a generally work-motivated horse as Guise. Fortunately, Antoine was experienced enough and had worked with the colt long enough to recognize these subtle signs. And now, as they entered the arena to perform in the Preparatory Dressage class on Surfer’s Paradise Beach, Guise didn’t exactly seem enthusiastic to do the work. He quirked up at the transition to a working trot but it was quickly replaced by a greater interest in the judge’s tent. So much so that Antoine had to nudge him a little harder for him to turn at the right time. The man couldn’t help but sigh silently.

Choosing a horse’s discipline was tricky, something Antoine was more than familiar with. There were multiple things to consider; the horse’s lineage, what they excelled naturally at and what they seemed most motivated by. Guise’s lineage had its fair share of successful eventers, though notably also a few jumpers in the mix. Though, it was to be determined what he excelled at naturally. And by the third point of consideration, Antoine was beginning to suspect Dressage wasn’t going to be the direction best suited for Guise. Even so, it didn’t hurt to continue feeling it out just to make sure.
