Vortex Delta, Pacific Rim contest entry — Description
Vortex Delta , or the Prairie Avenger as he is also known as. He is my custom Jaeger for my hometown of Denhoff, North Dakota. AKA... the middle of nowhere X3 Yeah, I live in the boonies as they say lol X3 I'm not originally from this town, I used to live in Denver, CO., but the contest called for your "hometown" so I'm assuming it's where you are at right now X3 But then again I thought, nowhere is a safe place from the apocalypse!!! So Vortex was soon built and deployed as the Kaiju threat spread across the globe, concerning more than the places nearest the seas.

Vortex Delta is a recently upgraded Mark 4 Jaeger, although he is not the brand new Mark 5 or 6 class, he still packs quite the punch. His left (or right arm as well) can transform into a huge mace of destruction! Capable of de-limbing Kaiju, if struck with enough force. Vortex also carries a lance and sheild on-hand strapped hidden in a quick-release panel on his back, as a back up measure. The number Vortex Delta is classified with is 13, for the base he is stationed at, which many consider to be the "unlucky number", (but my favorite number lol) bad news for those monsters X3

Plasma canons are equipped on the left arm only, but hardly used as it takes more power to operate, as Vortex has a single double-core reactor on it's neck plate. It's easier for the pilots and Jaeger to use it's signature mace and spear, as well as deployable claws on it's hands, and the claws on it's feet.

Other weapons Vortex carried are actually on it's helmet. The two long spear-type prongs on either side can actually fold down and point in front of the Jaeger, similar to a triceratops or rhino. One of Vortex's signature moves is Batter Ram, lowering the horns and then charging at the Kaiju head first, impaling them with the spears. Hence, Vortex has a thick neck-plate to better deal with the impact of ramming.( it's similar to, but thicker than Gypsy Danger, my favorite Jaeger from the first movie, one of the many Jaegers I took inspiration from for Vortex. I also took inspiration from General Grievous (starwars), for Vortex's feet design ^~^)

Vortex has long, blue neon marks near it's vizor, covering old damage from previous battles, and an American flag on it's left thigh.

Vortex's feet are equipped with three sharp claws for extra traction during the winter months, and can also be used as weapons when fighting, mainly for kicking moves. Vortex is one of the few Jaegers that is capable of kicking. He is more agile than his previous "sister/brother" Jaegers , Tyrone Ajjaxx and Double Twister.

So.... in my picture I wanted to depict Vortex battling a Category 4 Kaiju, codenamed: Slayer. Who is like... part bug with an electric scorpion stinger at the end of it's tail is what I wanted to go for. Vortex was having a hard time, as it's right arm was being torn off as well as other damage being taken. Vortex was about to go down or call for back up, but decided to deploy it's mace one last time, delivering the killing blow to Slayer as the mace was swing like an ax cutting into the Kajju and delivering a blow the beast can't recover from! Vortex Delta is still in commission, but was decommissioned for repairs after the fight with Slayer.

Took all my own photos. That is the actual highway leading down to Denhoff, and that is actually my car..... lol

So yeah, this is my entry. Hope you like it! Enough blabbing lol. It would be awesome to make it to the top-22 people, but we'll see. Either way, I'm a big fan of the first Pacific Rim movie, and this was a fun project to work on!

Total time invested: about a week and a half of planning/sketching, and another week and half of working on the actual piece. This was a huge project, never drew gigantic robots and monsters before, but that's what made it all the more fun! A great change of pace.

Software used: Photoshop CC 2018. (I made it lag, the file got so big LOL) Corel Painter 5.

((I also wanted to mention that my dad always calls the area where we live "The Vortex", since we often get bad weather. So that's part of the reason why I chose the name Vortex X3 I added Delta because it sounded cool, and there are a lot of lakes around the area as well.))
