Pro Tip - # 27 — Description
As I've said in the past, many people think zippers can be tricky to install, but with the aid of this previous pro tip, , it can be made even simple with more of the right tools. When I began taking on more and more serious commissions for Snow Bunny Studios, one of the earliest major commissions I did was the Nightwing I did for SDCC2012. With making a super hero suit, or any fitted leotard or catsuit from a stretchy material like Spandex, Lycra, or stretch vinyl for example, one usually wants to minimize seams the appearance of stitching and seams which may distract from the over all silhouette, unless they are meant to highlight the shape of the body or for color blocking. Even so, with a centered zipper, there's the appearance of extra seams and top stitching around the outside of the zipper that give it's location away. One way around this is an invisible zipper.

Often found in dresses, dress slacks, and any project where the appearance of seams needs to be minimized, this is one of my favorite types of zippers to put into a garment. While this does require a special foot as well as an invisible zipper, the final look hides the zipper along the seam line. Be warned, invisible zippers are some of the weakest types of zippers you can put into a sewing project and can easily be damaged or broken with regular wear and use.
