Description Ok, I've really been tweeking this ship of mine. I redid the hull textures and some of the wireframe. How does it look? I could really use the feedback.

What I really need is a new name for the ship. I'm tired of using Enterprise. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Rendered in 3D Studio Max 7 and post work in Photoshop.

I love this! Great work. How about USS Nike. (As in Nike the greek goddess of Victory)

I want to tease a friend...
USS Silver Millenium, NCC 71992.
Of course, there are constellation names, Greek names Perseus, Orion, Apollo; great scientists or explorers Einstein, Hawking, Sagan, Lafayette, Lewis and Clark, etc

Hey, man, nice work.

I have a name for you. It's the name of the physical model I am building right now. It's a really damaged Galaxy-class.
USS Olympeius NCC-71856
I think that would be absolutely rockin' man. Maybe even the USS Thermopylae, NCC-71851
Let me know what you think. I'd love to see some more of your renders with one of, particularly the first, name on it! Thanks a bunch, man. I look forward to it!

Very wonderful and detailed piece of work.

As for names, how about something like Excalibur, Thunderchild, or Argonaut?

Ohh... Thunderchild is a good name. I'll add that to the list. Thanks!

There's already an active Vessel called Thunderchild

How about Buran? That'd be a nice shuttle name.

Hmmm... that is a good name. I'll put it on my names list.

You should name it something mean and vicious, like... "Marauder" or "Widowmaker"...

Kidding. Awesome job. And, about all that pixelliness in the render? I bet you could smooth all that out with photoshop or Gimp or something...

Thanks!

I tried making it smoother in Photoshop, but it just makes it look more blurry. The new texture is MUCH better than the old one.... but I'm trying to get a high-res texture made.

That looks a lot better! I love the detail, very nice job....as for names. I don't really know. I liked Venture as one of someone's suggestions, but I'd have to think and I just got up.

Thanks Carrie. Those are brand new hull textures. Though I'm working on a higher resolution set right now.... but those are going to take a lot of time.

Venture is a good name too... The names I'm debating right now are Venture, Courageous, Expedition and Challenger.

Not bad, but You -really- need to just step up and make higher-resolution textures if you want to make hi-res renders.. It takes up a lot of ram, I know, but it'll be worth it... Right now everything is pixely, which you -might- have gotten away with if you could at least make the BUMP maps hi-res... that's the bigges problem, because that amplifies all the pixely-nexx

The model, however, looks very nice and very accurate... Nacelles are also cool!

Thank you very much for the feedback.

Yeah, I completly agree. I'm still learning 3DS Max, but I think I'm getting better at all of this. I've redone some of the textures already... but I just need to scrap them and make even higher resolution ones. I also need to put a lot more work into my bump maps as well...

Very cool. I like the detail on the hull.

It may be just the angle, but something about the angle of the right nacelle strikes me as a little odd. It's a very slight thing, and probably just me. Overall, it's a very cool image.

As for the names, assuming you're looking for original names, grab a thesaurus and start looking up synonyms for the popular ST names. I'm bored, and I have a thesaurus right here, so here goes: Venture, Endeavor, Adventurer, Courageous, Expedition, etc.

If you're looking for other ST names, use google.

Sloan47 In reply to JTweety [2005-07-25 04:55:53 +0000 UTC]

Ah, thank you very much! And I agree, the angle of the nacelle is a bit off. Getting the Galaxy to look just perfect takes time. I need to tweek the angle a bit.

And thanks for the suggestions too. I really like the Courageous and the Expedition. That's a perfect fit for this ship. Thanks!

I thought about that... but I wanted to see what others wanted to call it. Thanks for the comment though.
