Description
I promised a series of tutorials (this is the first of the series)this is on shading.
best way to learn is to first observe simple objects in life...
(i'm working on DP:R... too much homework and work now)
i'll create a youtube video later on- it'll better illustrate my point...

Some one told me that you can use the character's nose as a reference where to shades.
But, this is useful, because its a basic principle of art.

lol well yeah in anime the nose has a shadow on the non-light side as a triangle...

This is really good. I finally understand how to shade correctly.
Sadly, my art teacher doesn't see cartoons or anime as a valid art form. She calls them "default". That if we start drawing with those defaults, apparently, our art will suck. I think of the different drawing styles as ways for people to develop their own style and be themselves in their art. But then again, that's just me.

its about as "default" as you can get. it's staring at you right now in real life.

my 4th-6th grade art teacher sucked! talks half the hour then we never finish anything. after about 2 or 3 monthes of it she complains, "You know, we always end up wiht only about 20 min. left for doing actual artwork in here when we have like an hour! you guys are talking TOO much"
XPPPPP whatever, no one liked her. of corse i tried to be nice but she was an old hag that went into too much detail in the history of things instead of instructions adn hlepful hints on what we could do that might help us (not that i needed it XDD)
Jr. High art teacher not much better either (or so i've heard, not taking art classes, mean and a lot like 6th grade art teacher) probably be taking art in High School instead
though we did have a 5 page packet that we had to do that only 2 ppl finished, i had 1 page left... think... idk anymore... i think it burned it XDDD (i'm so nice)

Heheh um I'm in art VIII right now, and there's so few of us (just three) that we're combined with an art I class, and honestly.... I think it's the art I students that do the massive amount of talking...... but there is something about the relaxed atmosphere too, ehhh....... *rambling proof*

My art teacher just makes her kids draw still lifes, and paint color wheels... and do linoleum block prints... which is really boring and potentially dangerous... the one thing that was slightly useful was doing a gray shade scale from white to black. All grays heh This is a nice tutorial

yeah.... That's why it was the more useful thing she taught us. She I think doesn't have patience for kids :/
