My husband asked that I create a set of prayer beads, so this is his anniversary gift. They have 111 genuine jade beads, I think 10mm. The spacer beads are genuine black onyx, about 4mm. Everything was strung with softflex and the tassel is made from embroidery thread.Jade and onyx are both know to have purification properties, so hold special meaning in the use of the prayer beads for meditation.

The little onyx beads also give the appearance of knotting, traditionally done on strands such as these.

Good. I was actually going to do knotting, but... after postpoining for almost a year it became very clear that it was not a technique that I was currently into. Ah well! We can't do everything right...

The little beads might even be a little better than knotting, because they add modernity while alluding to a traditional interpretation.
