This is beautiful, but I mostly love the subtle characterization and the warm light coming from the horizon. It provides wonderful contrast and focus.
You obviously spent a lot of time on this, with each bird being separately painted, but once I noticed that there were only two bird poses, it made the picture look rather forced and eerie.
I don't have your skill or patience to pull off this kind of painting, but I think with the magic of digital copy/pasting, one or two more different flight poses should be rather feasible.
