Description Resurrection and merging of the past and present where the old life and new life cross.
Not quite "Lazarus", that is a different story, but a similar idea.
Probably, this is an image I will revisit.

It looked more traditional to me that digital in the thumbnail, kind of like an oil painting, and I really like the traditional feel to it. I like your use of textures as they add to the piece rather than distract, and they aren't overwhelming at all. I think the colours are also a reason for drawing me into your painting. :>

Thanks very much for your acute viewing. I do have a traditional studio art background and this came about from a time when I was still working on the reconciling of those techniques with a newer medium. Anymore I just let the work become the guide. Digital or traditional, the basic tenets of design don't change. Again, I appreciate you taking the time to see it and to respond.

This image is haunting me. Years ago I saw it published in a magazine. Not sure which, maybe artnews or art &antiques...
I couldnt see as much detail. I stared at it , I cliped it out and kept it. I lost it. Then here it is again!

I'm first drawn by the textures.
The I notice the colors. Usually for me, it's the other way around. I guess in this case it is the arm and fabric which becomes my focal point, being rendered realistically, as it is, juxtapositioned (see Ma, I used it in a sentence) against the "flatness" of the white noise around the head area.

It's almost like there is a dimensional transferance going on; moving from one area to another. I adore the layers in your work, this one being no exception.

Excellent image! How long does it take you, on the average, to create an image like this?

Thanks, the biblical story of Lazarus being raised from the dead and coming out of the tomb kept going on in my mind.
Of course this is more metaphorical, about Transition more than resurrection, but still a new life of a sort.
Glad you stopped by!

I'm a sucker for immortally, but I think this one is so appealing in the combination of statue-like elements with a certain nobility, reminds me of Washington D.C or Rome, empires that wish to be immortal

Hey thanks for the comment.
The idea of constructed icons, symbols of beauty, deities, that is it exactly.
There is also the idea of resurrection of course.

Glad you picked up on this!

This is one of the more personal... or autobiorgraphical works maybe?
Clawing your way out of the tomb, fighting back... getting stronger, escaping from the pit...recovery revitialization... resurrection.
I come at this year with new eyes.

this is a beautiful piece. Im not sure if u've drawn it or not, but its wow. I like what you did with her leg, how to drapes fall down. very unique! Also the top part, how the lines are drawn ( i dont know what the method is called, but very cool) keep it up

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Senecal In reply to persiangel [2005-01-08 02:59:21 +0000 UTC]

Hey thanks.
And to answer some of the questions, yes technically I do "draw" or "paint" everything in the image but the process is using a stylus and tablet so not using traditional graphite although for some work I do that too. But this is all digital.
It is a weird process to explain because it blends elements of traditional with those aspects that are unique to the process of working digitally. I used figure model reference for the proportions and the fabric ( there is no way I can recall from memory alone how those subtleties would lie along the lines). So no genius at work here, though the myths of art history are often more bark than bite to begin with!

Anyway I really appreciate you stopping by to see this and thanks for the feedback!

well, I guess what I meant by composition is not only the placement of figure, color blocks... but also the emotional and 'story' sense when I read your description and applied it.

Its a complete piece, faved it because its good.
