First Launching — Description

Captain's Log
Stardate 2259.0.1

This is my first log entry as Captain of the USS Saratoga.

The Saratoga is about to launch from Spacedock. She will be heading for the Hymer Cloud,
our first stop on a six month mission of planetary and astronomical survey and research.

The Saratoga was first launched in 2245. But this will be the first time that she launches with me
in command. In a curious way this feels like a Christening…for me.

Bridge
As Kirk walked onto the Bridge he saw the expectant faces of his new bridge crew and gave an internal smile as he noted that McCoy had come up from Medbay to stand beside him during the launch.

With a nod to the crew, Kirk made his way over to the command chair and sat down.
"Let's get this show on the road. Lieutenant M'Ress, get me Dock Control, please."

"Dock Control reading, sir," the Caitian responded. "Control, this is Saratoga. Requesting permission
to depart."
"Saratoga this is Dock Control, permission to depart granted."

McCoy leaned over and squeezed his shoulder. "Buckle up, Jim," he said softly.

Kirk smiled briefly in gratitude. "All decks this is Captain Kirk. Prepare for immediate departure."
He called down to Engineering. "Commander Filars, how we doing down there?"

From Engineering came the confident and reassuring, "Dilithium chamber at maximum, Captain.
Warp available at your command."

"Thank you, Commander." He turned his attention to his Helmsman. "Retract all moorings, Mr. Akari and engage thrusters."

"Moorings retracted, Captain and thrusters fired. Separating from Spacedock."

Gracefully the small ship pulled away from her harbor.
"The Saratoga has cleared Spacedock, Captain. We are ready for warp."

"Set our course."

"Course laid in."

"Engage."
