A sprig of Rosemary from the rosemary bush next to the driveway at my mums house.

This is a watercolour painting for my final project at University - I made a book of Botanical Illustrations on plants that were important to me in some way.

The book has around 60 illustrations in, and writing telling stories and facts about why the plants are important to me.

This is one of the three pieces I framed and hung on the wall above my book for the show display

Rosemary -
Rosemary is one of the herbs that I really hate, but people seem to use a lot. The smell gives me a headache. Not as badly as Lavender or Basil, but it makes me annoyed that a lot of things that it is in don’t actually need Rosemary to still smell or taste nice.
It’s the peas-in-rice scenario: rosemary doesn’t need to be some recipes but it is put in anyway simply because it is there. Its relaxing properties or enhancement of the flavour of lamb are wasted on me.
I like the way that Rosemary looks though; I consider that a redeeming feature.
The leaves are interesting; they look as if they are slightly fluffy because they have a white-ish layer on them that makes the surface of the leaf very matte, unlike a lot of leaves which are shiny.
I remember a rosemary bush in the garden at my Auntie Jo’s house. Butterflies used to like the rosemary bush a lot and would perch on it. Even though I didn’t like the smell, I would go over and look at the butterflies. I would leave either when I started to get a headache or if a butterfly flew off – then I would run away because butterflies scare me, as does everything that is small and flies.
