Kelly-26 — Description

“Hold up Kel!”

She came to a stop smiling a bit that he used a nickname.

“I’d kinda like to watch this part”

“So you want the skybox seat?..”

“Yeah, that’s the one..”

“Do you want me to put the pack down or can you come around to my shoulder? I’m not flexible enough to…”

“Just don’t move. I’ll slip off these knots and climb up..”

“You’ll be safe?”

“I’ll loosen the rope but I’ll still be tied to the strap if you want.”

“I want”

Zack fiddled with the knots and climbed onto her shoulder. He stood up holding onto her hair for stability. “ready”

“I’ll try to walk a little smoother for you”

She slowed down and tried to take some of the swing out of her hip motion.

“That’s not working Kel. Your normal walk is better..”

It didn’t make much difference as they were almost there.

“Sh*t! One of my boots is gone. My helmet too!”

They looked down to see six men waiting for them. She had to do it.

“Hey there, I’m Kelly! Take me to your leader.”

Zach started to laugh..

“Five of the little Zach sized people looked towards a thin man. It was hard to tell from the distance, but he looked to be middle aged and was beginning to to grey”

“Kelly? I’m Larry Smoot of the Origins Center. I, we, have some questions.”

“I have questions too, but let me guess - where I’m from and why I’m here…” The thin little man nodded. Everyone else was just starring up at her. “I’m Kelly Ohlson and I’m from Eldora, Iowa. I need some help with my radio to contact my crew and get rescued..”

“…Iowa?!?”

“Yeah.. Eldora. It’s a tiny place.. the county seat of Hardin county. Did you see Twister?”

“Twister? You mean the movie?”

“That’s the one. It was filmed there… I was in it. Not a speaking role or anything. Just an extra.”

“You’re pulling my leg now..”

“I’m not. You’d know it if I was..”

“But…”

“Yeah - I know, I'm tall. Look… There was this spaceship and a bright beam of light. I changed and ended up becoming a member of the crew..”

“Where is the crew from?”

“All of us are from Earth. Except for this intelligence.”

“I’m still confused” Professor Smoot’s mind was racing. All of the others were just as baffled.

“You won’t believe me, but I’m being honest. I wanna open it up and air it out.” She looked around on the ground. “Where’s my other boot?”

Professor Smoot looked at another of the little people. “You’ve moved things..” He answered still starring up at the towering young woman. “One of the boots and a helmet.”

“At least you left the left boot. I need that.” She reached to her shoulder “Zach. I’m putting you on the ground now.”

“A few mouths were open as she slowly knelt down and placed a person amidst them.”

“Hi. I’m Zach. Kelly and I have been hiking together.”

Kelly picked up the boot and finished out the entry scanner. She held it to her left eye an gave it a squeeze. A metallic click and then a whirring sound and two massive doors opened.

“It’s gonna smell awful in there, but you’re welcome to have a look. Maybe just Zach and two of you to begin with.”

She bent down and reached for Zach. “It’s going to be easier one at a time. I don’t think you guys aren’t used to this.”

In short order the Professor and one of the others was standing with Zach on the bottom door.

“So you’re?..”

“I’m Joel”

“Hi Joel. It’s way easier to talk with you like this anyway. Excuse me while I get this pack off.” She struggled a bit getting out of the straps and set it on the ground. “Nice rig.” she observed. "One of my big brothers, I mean his older and was pretty tall, but he's tiny like you, anyway... he was taking his test to drive a rig like this one."

“I can tell you're disappointed. You were probably hoping for a little green man and a flying saucer, but all you get a tall girl from Eldora and her lifeboat…”

“Lifeboat?”

“Yeah Joel. This isn’t a spaceship. It’s just a little escape pod. Something happened to my survey ship I had to get out. I spent about a month making it here and am pretty lucky to have made it in one piece. Now I need to get a signal to the other crew members that I’m ok and need to be rescued.” She motioning towards the inside of the pod. “It isn’t much and it’s ancient, but do you want the tour? Oh - and maybe I can get my other boot and helmet back.”
