Another style and concept piece for the Contender series by Taran Matharu.I'm quite happy with this one, looks pretty badass if I can say so myself xD A bit of a Frank Frazeetta influence going on with some more modern characters.

I like to think that Quetzalcoatl was a dinosaur: half reptile half bird.
And I am also fascinated by the combination between Mesoamerica and dinosaurs.
I just think that a Maya or Aztec warrior would have been better instead of a samurai.

The funny thing is, as I watched this drawing today, I am reminded of my love for the card game Magic The Gathering, where recently they have an ongoing storyline based on pirates and Conquistadores invading a dino-taming Mayan civilization. (You may search for the keyword Ixalan for some clues)

Awesome work as always, only one tip, when drawing feathered theropods you should draw the primaries on the second finger of the animal hand like in modern birds, shouldn't stop on the writs. other than that your drawing skills are just amazing, you're definitely my favourite artist!

Β this is a good guide on feather placement you can make the feathers different shape but you should stick to this placement

To be honest the animals on this image should be way more evenly feathered and avian-looking if my intent was to make them as accurate as possible, but the pulpy style of the story and the legendary
reptile-bird theme of the piece demanded that they should look a bit more reptilian than their real life counterparts. But I'll find an excuse to make some properly accurate raptors for you soon enough : )

Got the precise same thought when looking at this picture - and, yes, it's exceedingly Metal.Β
I don't think it's very likely that they've add Nippon for real, though. The eastern parts of the Warhammer World are mentioned quite sporadically in the fluff, but there are some interesting cultures and factions out there, like the Chaos Dwarfs, Ogre Kingdoms, Cathay, etc. There are also supposed to be all kinds of Beastmen living around the kingdoms of Khuresh.Β
