Equibreak Graduation — Description
Temptress Tigerlily completing her last and final training for the Equibreak Training Course

Tempy was beautiful - meticulously groomed with her silky mane and tail fluttering in the gentle breeze. Her saddle and bridle shined brightly with polish, and the mare looked ready to perform for a show. She was a relatively inexperienced horse, in the competitive and dressage arenas. However, Madison (or Madi as her friends called her) had been working fairly intensively with the mare over the last few months and Tempy was picking it up very quickly. She was becoming a fine dressage mare – responsive to Madi's commands and a quick learner – and showed some serious potential under saddle.

And now, the day had come for Madi to perform for Zachary (the barn manager and senior horse trainer at AVS facilities). This was not an official show, but Madi was nervous nonetheless, knowing that Zach would be evaluating both her and Tempy's progress and potential. She looked down at the giant mare, standing 19.2hh, patting her reassuringly and let her walk out some paces around the training arena, while they waited for Zach's arrival. She did not want the mare to sense her subtle nervousness, and knew that the movement would be good for both of them.

She admired Tempy's responsiveness to her light touch, knowing that the mare was looking for the slightest signals from her, as she waited for her commands. Madi had bonded with Tempy quickly, adoring the giant mare's desire to please and eagerness to learn. Even in new and uncertain circumstances, Tempy trusted Madi's judgment and would perform what was asked of her (with caution at times). The trust went both ways between horse and rider – and Madi knew enough to listen to Tempy's instincts when the need called for it.

Madi watched as Zach walked with ease across the lush lawn towards the training arena. He looked relaxed, and smiled at her as he approached. Made felt herself settle down as he leaned into the arena fence.

"You ready to show me what you guys got?" Zach asked with a smile.

I was trying to get this finished up last month - a sort of training accomplishment for Tempy, before entering the FOYS monthly dressage show. However, RL sorta ran away with me and this was all the farther I was able to get (and it's already July now). But at least the girls have gone through the training program, enjoying each step along the way, and are very proud to be graduating today. Time to bring on some dressage shows now.
