Oh, Ember, you little troublemaker. This brings her no end of joy like her friend Rain's naked board-game. Fairies love playing out soap operas and having people take their insane situations seriously and in-character. It gives them so much happiness.
I suspect this is what they do instead of watch television all day.

Although I gave up television years ago, I understand the sentiment. Heck, if I could twist reality without accruing enough paradox to melt a fair sized city there's more of a chance than I'd care to admit I would do something remarkably similar. But hopefully not as evil as the bird...

The fae have certain 'reality exemptions' granted to them by their Queen. She lives in the Dreaming, so if it could happen in a dream, the fae can bring it here. Shakespeare knew about this I am told. So instead of reality television, fairies create similar dramas and passion plays for their enjoyment.
Good fairies don't like people to be killed or hurt during these, but the bad ones ...I could only guess. Ember is pretty unique and she knows not to anger me by hurting those I care for, but others I am not so sure of.
The Bird. Is an ass. He would just as much put you in a horror movie, let you die in the first scene, and forget about you. Or perhaps bring you back in 300 years for another quick death or impossible situation to survive. He is only concerned with rebirth and the fire which hardens steel. If you fail, you go back in the fire.

I have been to Hell and back to get here. And now you know how Ember tortures me. But I suppose her silly fun gives her power, and by playing along she will bring me to the places I need to go to do the serious things of which people expect of me.
