Framing, signature and slight brightening of the two dino eyes in Affinity Photo
This one took... long to render. I cut it off after 9 hours and it's still noisy/grainy. The actual scene is very bright and does have lots of light, I used tonemapping to darken it.
On my first attempt at a final render I went to bed and let it run overnight... but forgot to increase the allowed render time and it stopped after just two hours. DOH.

For me the final render is successful, even if the female character could have had more shadows or darker parts, and a "wilder" appearance.
The use of 3D lights seems very complex indeed...

I think you are right about the shadows... a bit more would probably have worked better.
I've started some experiments with the iRay "decal" function (you can basically project images onto surfaces) and that might work to add some tattoos or tribal bodypainting for a wilder look.
