Ok here is the reference that I did for my OC Ryver. I had a lot of fun with the outline and I'm really happy that I finally have a solid design for her. The one thing that I'm not super happy about is the expressions in the bottom left corner, I might have to come back to that... Anyways, I don't have a backstory or anything for her but here is some basic info:
Name: Ryver (pronounced "River")
Gender: Female
Age: 13 (In dragon years)
Tribe(s): 50% Seawing, 40% Nightwing, and 10% Rainwing. Ryver's Father was a Seawing prince who fell in love with a Nightwing/Rainwing hybrid.
Appearance: Ryver's scales are a very dark shade of blue that can look black. She is very Nightwing dominant and therefor looks very much like a Nightwing from afar. She has luminescent scales on her face, neck, underbelly, shoulders, back legs, tail, and the underside of her wings. She carries a version of the Seawing royal pattern on the underside of her small round wings, along with stars that form the Aquarius constellation. Ryver's eyes are silver and she has very small teardrop scales at the corners of her eyes, she sometimes wears a matching moonstone necklace. She can also be seen wearing a thread bracelet on one of her ankles, and some sort of weapon like a dagger, or throwing stars, or even dual-wield swords.
Abilities:
- Luminescent scales that can change colours depending on her mood, or change colour to match her scales so that she can pretend to be a full Nightwing (Only her luminescent scales can change colour).
- Gills for breathing underwater.
- No fire.
- "A very strange and downright terrible ability to read dragon's minds" - Ryver. Ryver has the mind reading power of Nightwings, but it has a twist, she can only read one dragon's mind at a time and only if she concentrates on them. After reading the mind of a dragon, she develops a pounding headache that can last for hours, because of this she tries very hard not to concentrate on anyone. Despite her best efforts, she can accidentally use her powers when she's having a conversation, or if she's not really paying attention and focuses on a random dragon. Skyfire is a blessing and she is very relived that it exists.
Personality: Because of Ryver's mind reading powers, and the fact that she tries not to concentrate on anyone, she comes across as very aloof and disinterested in everything all the time. She can be very quiet and shy unless you start talking about something that she finds interesting, then she will either jump into the conversation whole-heartedly, or remain silent and listen very attentively while trying not to stare. Ryver is usually very kind and compassionate, but she doesn't always know how to show her compassion, and she becomes very awkward. Ryver is fairly friendly on the surface and tries to include everyone, but she doesn't trust easy and she only has a few close friends (most dragons don't trust her either to be honest). Ryver's fatal flaw is probably loyalty, if she finds someone she can trust, she will stick with that dragon until she dies, this could also be mistaken for her overall stubborn nature (She and I are both very stubborn ).
Ok I lied, I do have a tiny bit of back story...
Jumbled Backstory mess... Ryver hatched to a Seawing prince, and a Night/Rain hybrid. She probably hatched during a war or just before a war began, and her parents were probably caught and killed in a battle. I'm guessing she lived on her own for a while before the Nightwings found her and brought her back to the volcano (her backstory probably takes place a couple hundred years after Darkstalker was imprisoned beneath Agate mountain). The Nightwings trained her as a spy or an assassin or something along those lines, and on one of her missions she met up with a Seawing who took her to meet their Queen. The Seawing queen (Who was related to Ryver in some way but I'm not quite sure how yet) recruited her as a spy for the Seawings, and tried to make her tell them where the Nightwing Island was. When the Nightwings learned that she was working for the Seawings as well, they tried to convince her to take the Seawing throne, she refused but word somehow got back to the Seawings and they were all like "agh the weird black dragon is gonna kill our queen, oh nooo we must kill her first!" and then one of the Queen's daughters challenged her for the throne, won, and sent an army of assassins after Ryver (you know, normal crazy queen stuff). Ryver was forced to flee into either the Rainforest, or across the ocean to Pantala... (one of them) and that is how she met her bestest friends in whole world and they lived happily ever after with their sloth pets. The End!
Lol, most of that backstory stuff was just a joke, but I might actually use some of the ideas in the future. Hope you found it entertaining, and feel free to comment any ideas you have for her life's story, I could use all the help I can get!
