Description
Hello!
Here's a cross-section from the Ground Control, a RTS game from 1999. This time it's one of the heavier vehicles which are somewhat more interesting than the scouts and such. There are more similar infographics in my gallery, and they're all from the same game.
Fully digital piece realized in Photoshop CS6 + Cintiq 13".

Thanks! Possibly, I'm not decided on that yet. If you'd like to commission a piece in that case I definately would...

Even with the Rhino as my desktop wallpaper ensuring that I see your amazing work every day, this stunned me with the visual detail you've put into it. I may have mentioned earlier that the Wolf is one of my least favorite designs, but this cutaway really makes me wonder why - you've given it new life for my imagination. It make me shiver to consider how mind-blowing your HOG is going to look. Thinking about that, perhaps you should save that for last even though, if I recall correctly, it would be the next Crayven vehicle in your series. I'm imagining a totally exterior version beside a totally sectional version, a real magnum opus worthy of a centerfold. You got a Patreon?
And the crew are realistically oriented instead of being legless torsos this time! This is a great improvement! I love the adjacent Marine in combat stance; having him for scale must have helped. I'm not sure if you're the iterative type as I am, but if you ever publish that art book I would love to see another iteration of the Jackal with a reclined crew (or perhaps prone - how's that for an idea!) and desert color scheme. You got a Patreon?!
As always, I'm very much looking forward to whatever's next in your GC pipeline. Lynx? Jaeger? Templar? Looking through the handbook, I've realized the Locust was bypassed, but considering how literally everyone forgets it after the tutorial, I'm not surprised we did also.

Thanks, glad you like it! I've developed an idea on drawing these GC vehicles that I tried out with the Wolf: you can add as much detailing as you like so long as it fits the general profile of the vehicles. Like for example the lifting eyes, equipment rack on the back of the turret, etc. With the next piece I'll use a similar approach but I'll be careful to keep the right look.
As for what's the next one, I think either Lynx or Locust. I'm a bit lost on which one should be next, since If I'm going with as you acquire/make contact with- in the campaign, it would be a pretty different order than going with the order the vehicles are presented in the handbook. I think the as you acquire-route would provide more variance to the mix, otherwise I'd probably end up with a lot of aerodynes at the end which are not as interesting as the land vehicles. Lynx would be nice to do next though, I was thinking of making a similar "extra" pic on the side with the Lynx weapon system in detail. I always thought the Lynx looked very futuristic with the clearly unmanned turret/weapon so it would be interesting. One other that I was thinking of making pretty soon is the Jaeger since they're without a doubt one of my favourite units in the game.
The HOG is a bit of a mystery designwise right now. I have some unanswered questions when it comes to the look and the insides of the vehicle, like:
What do all the six crewmembers do exactly?
Where are they situated in the vehicle?
How does the weapon system work, reload, the case falling out mid-flight etc.?
There's also various questions on details too and so on. In any case the HOG will probably be a real magnum opus of design to actually make it look like a working, plausible machine in every respect. I should really think about an OND vehicle to make for a similar double feature but I'm undecided on which one would be interesting enough. The Grizzly would work for one as well, but we'll see.
I'll probably fix the crew arrangement on the Jackal at some point in the future since it just looks too silly. Don't know when though. I've been thinking about setting up a Patreon for getting an artbook printed with all these GC cross-sections and some extra GC art, sketches and whathaveyou included. It's just a bit of a mystery how much backing I could get for it, and when I would have the time to pull through with art for all the units. Right now I'm about 1/4 done so it is feasible if I go for it, but I'd really need to round up some old RTS fanbase/cross-section fans to back it up. Β Β

It's probably the best cannon sound I've heard in a game to be honest. GC just had really good sound design in general.

Β Automatic charging is unusual but very similar to the same system of tanks of the T-64 family. Or the same experimental Kharkov and Nizhny Tagil machines. Like objects 490 and 195.Β

There's hatches on the top deck there, you can see one just sliced above the driver there. Others aren't visible.
