ULTIMUM — Description

So how would you guys like to read a story that’s RACIALLY DIVERSE, with characters that have PHYSICAL DISABILITIES, varying SEXUAL ORIENTATIONS, GENDERS, and AGES? While keeping the story about the PEOPLE THEMSELVES and not focusing on the minority representations? All set in a post-apocalyptic world where there are monsters, survivors, and struggling masses? A world where the line between monster and person is blurred?
Welcome to ULTIMUM.

ULTIMUM is set in post-apocalyptic new york, 60 years after the fall of mankind. Nature is reclaiming the city, causing plants to grow and underground rivers to take over subways. But of course, mankind didn’t fall for no apparent reason! There’s a parasite-caused illness that began in the rainforest of Madagascar. It’s basically these worms, (inspired by horse hair worms) that travel through your veins, one to every person, and get into your brain then release a chemical cocktail that screws your head up while they slowly eat away at the part of your brain which stores memories and emotions, basically causing you to go insane with symptoms similar to violent dementia. These worms need water to live- but cannot live in white rapids because it’ll kill them. So still water? Infested. And if you drink from it or go in it, you’ll be swarmed. These worms can infect ANYTHING. Livestock, animals- so everything is slowly being killed off. A world-wide operation was formed, combining each country’s military and scientists to attempt to research and stop the worms: the APACA. Armed Protection Against Controlled Anomalies. After forty years of trying, the food sources dying, the PEOPLE dying- the organization took on a new name. APOCA. Armed Protection of Controlled Areas. They can’t beat the worms, they can only fend them off.
Deep in the Quarantine Zone of northern Manhattan, Miles has graduated from the Academy For Junior Soldiers- a school that takes kids at age ten and shoves a gun into their hand at age seventeen and sends them out. Miles is an early graduate at sixteen, though despite excelling at the harsh programs in the Academy, tries to turn a blind eye to the military’s brutality in the hope he’d never have to hurt people like they do.
Renny, a nineteen year old boy short of a leg, lives outside the Quarantine Zone in a group of survivors that the APOCA has branded as rebels to be shot on sight. He’s slowly realizing that the world is fucked up- despite how hard people have tried to shelter him due to his innocent disposition.
Adelaide is the second-in-command of the “rebels”, whom has had to take over after their leader disappeared on a scouting mission. She’s struggling with giving her people a good life and keeping everyone safe- while not letting them forget the reality of their world.
Fawn, nicknamed that because of her large doe-eyes, is a nine year old girl coming to the harsh understanding that Adelaide and the grown ups of the rebel group are powerless to keep her safe in a world that wants her dead.

This is the story of how these people come together and try to survive against this cruel world.
