I did this galaxy iwhile ago, in another piece along with a planet, but i thought i remove the planet and just keep the Galaxy, much better if you ask me. You can find the old piece here, [link]All done in Photoshop freehand.

very good on this one to, the whole concept is great. maybe make a bigger one and fill up the image some more? maybe use some textured brushes, It looks to me when you where done with brushing you used some filter, emboss, glass or so because it isnt soft anymore, it like a whole object it looks solid. anyway great concept

well done, you can even see the clouds surrounding the shapes within the milkyway- realistic, however it needs work... I dunno what it is but it doesn't seem completely right... maybe the shape is off a bit?

Yeah i know what you understand, maybe in the future i will fix it totaly, atm i just cant see myself actually what is missing in it. Thats the problem, but well, imagination might come back to me i hope!

maybe a nebula or two in the back ground would help? transparent bright red mmm...
