Description
He couldn’t help but smile.
As the Kirlia gazed around the nursery, the small bodies of the daycare children were curled up, fast asleep on their differently colored floor mats and blankets. Many of them curled up close to each other, and he softly chuckled when he noticed some of them snuggling together in their sleep.
Walking over to the light switch near the door, he reached up and lightly flicked it down, darkening the room for the napping children. And as carefully as he could, keeping a careful eye on them to make sure his movements weren’t disturbing them from their rest, he backed out of the room, reaching in and closing the door afterwards.
Gosh…young pokemon really don’t seem to like nap time… He sweatdropped as he thought about his struggle not too long before, with him running around the room trying to settle the children down as they giggled uncontrollably and whined about wanting to play more. Somehow he had managed to calm them down enough to let them go to sleep. And he was lucky, and very grateful, that a majority of them looked up to him and listened.
Now that he thought about it, as the generations of children came and went, more and more of them liked him. His own generation, all already adopted, never paid any mind to him. But now, so many of the kids cared and seemed to love him.
That’s because we’re like an older brother to them. They depend on us.
The Kirlia shivered a bit, feeling the emotion from his other self and interpreting it into words. Even now, the way his other personality reacted to his own feelings out of the blue felt strange, but he knew he just had to get used to it.
He had to agree…he really did feel like an older brother. And having so many young children admire him made him happier than anything else.
I’ll always be there for them. If they ever need me, I’ll be here.
Gently smiling to himself, he turned and began to head down the hallway.
“Kirlia, sweetie!”
He jumped when he saw his caretaker, Missy, approaching him, realizing that she had entered the hallway while he was deep within his thoughts.
“Ahh, don’t worry, Miss Missy. All of the children are fast asleep.” Gale explained with a friendly smile, pointing towards the other room to emphasize.
“I see! Thank you so much for your help, like always! ” she smiled brightly and placed a hand on his head, lightly stroking his hair. He shyly grinned back at her, appreciating her warm waves of emotion. “But actually… I didn’t come here to check on you. I came to get you.”
Kirlia blinked at her words. “Come…get me…?”
“Oh yes~ Here. Follow me!” Before he could ask another question, the older Blissey spun around and started towards the door to the main room of the daycare. Confused, but remaining obedient, he followed.
From the doorway, he continued to follow the Blissey across the next room, only to be surprised as she began to approach a separate room he was quite familiar with.
“Miss Missy…?” he began. Already predicting his question, she opened the door for him and nodded at him.
“Yes, my dear. An egg is about to hatch. And luckily for you, you get to be the only one out of everyone to witness such a wonderous moment up close and with a full view~”
Kirlia was stunned by her words. In the past, he had seen quite a few eggs hatch, since Missy always gathered the children around to watch the event as it happened. It never failed to amaze everyone…but mainly, in the past, he had to witness it from the ground and near the very back of the group, having been so small. It was easy for a pokemon to obscure his view. Nonetheless, he appreciated whatever he did get to see. In the recent months, when some eggs hatched, he still had to watch from a distance as the young pokemon gathered around to get a closer look. It was quite an experience, watching an egg hatch for the first time, and he didn’t want to stand in their way with his height.
But now, he finally had the chance to see it happen directly in front of him.
Missy closed the door behind her as they both entered the room. Against the walls, multiple wooden cradles lined with soft, colorful blankets for the newborns were set up. This room was solely used for newly hatched pokemon, containing them until the child could finally open its eyes and begin to speak. Currently, the cradles were empty.
In the middle of the room, a pedestal with a cushioned top stood, and on top, a single egg laid. He looked over it, taking in it’s grey coloring and red markings. Now this was an egg he had never seen before.
He was tempted to ask just what pokemon egg it was, but he knew the rules and ways of being in the presence of an egg that was close to hatching: wait and see for yourself to find out what pokemon rested inside.
“Here.” Missy took his hand and placed it against the warm shell of the egg. Underneath his hand, the Kirlia could feel the child inside moving, readying itself to enter the world. He could even sense its restlessness. Just as Missy said, it was definitely ready.
And right then and there, the egg began to crack.
He quickly withdrew his hand, startled by the noise, but stared in wonder as the smooth shell started to chip.
First it was one crack. Then two. Smaller cracks began to branch off of these cracks, and soon enough, the egg illuminated a warm, bright white light. The Kirlia had to slightly squint, being so close to such dazzling brightness, but he refused to tear his eyes away from the amazing scene unfolding before him. The egg began to rock back and forth, first slowly and then slightly increasing speed as more of the shell broke off.
With its walls down, the glowing light that remained - the life force of this being - then began to take its shape.
He watched as the light began to form a small form, ears shaping on its head and the shape of a thick tail growing out from behind. Eventually, the light faded away, leaving behind a new life.
The pokemon was still unknown to him, but its grey fur, with its even darker mane, made him guess that it could be a dark type. The tuff of hair on its head, along with its paws, were tipped in red, and its eyelids and the two dots above its eyebrows also took on this color. Whatever it was, it looked like a sweet yet mysterious creature to him.
“How was it, dear?” Missy asked cheerfully, standing close to him. He looked up at the woman with wide orange eyes.
“I never knew just how different the experience is up close, Miss Missy,” he breathed, turning back to the newborn. “It was beautiful…”
“I know, sweetie. I thought you would love it. And if you’re wondering, this little girl is a pokemon called Zorua.”
“Zorua…” he repeated softly, watching it slightly shift in the cushioned nest, its eyes tightly closed. From its slow breathing, he could tell that it was asleep.
Missy walked closer to the pedestal and carefully picked up the child, holding it in her arms. Suddenly, she turned to him, still beaming her smile at him.
“Kirlia. Would you like to hold her…?”
He stared at her in disbelief, his eyes flickering from her, to the Zorua, and back. Not once had Missy ever let one of the orphans at the Daycare hold a newly born child. Then again, they were all far too small to support the weight of a Pokemon in their arms. Especially him, when he was a tiny Ralts. But now he was a Kirlia, and most importantly the oldest. This was an obvious sign of Missy’s trust in him.
…and he had never felt so honored.
He could only nod as a response, and at that, Missy quickly went through the basics of holding a child, asking him if he understood afterwards before leaning close and transferring the little one to him. It didn’t take long for Kirlia to shift the Zorua into the right position until he cradled it in his arms.
He gazed down into its innocent face, resting against him. Standing there and relaxing more, he found himself seemingly forgetting where he was as he watched the small fox. All of a sudden, it began to slightly stir.
“Zuuu….zuuuu….”
The young child pressed its head more against his shoulder, nuzzling him and tickling his skin with her soft fur. He lightly blushed at the action, but couldn’t stop the corners of his mouth from lifting into a gentle, loving smile.
He leaned his head down and rested it against hers, still smiling to himself as he softly spoke to her.
“It’s nice to meet you too…little Zuzu.”
And welcome to the world.

Some of you guys may or may not have noticed that Gale and a certain Zorua have some backstory that has yet to be touched on.
Well, after seeing ’s recent deviation of the two, I just had to make this.
But basically, Riona was the first newborn/baby pokemon that Gale got to hold. X3
And yes. Since this happened in the past, Gale doesn’t have his name yet. And obviously, nor does Riona. XP
And if you need an explanation to how I view baby pokemon…
To me, I think that when a pokemon is first born, they’re completely helpless. They can’t see, nor can they speak actual words. They can only make simple sounds (for Zoruas, they say “zuuu”). It takes a few days for them to actually open their eyes and form their words. :3 And remember this one important detail, for the future: pokemon can see the world outside of their shells as eggs.
So yeah~ Do enjoy. This is Part 1 out of 2. ;3
ALSO remember: Night doesn't actually talk to Gale. The bold words are Gale's interpretation of Night's emotional reactions to either his own thoughts or his environment. All in all: any bold thoughts are Night's. ;3
