Description

On paper, Gamma Seven was deceivingly earth-like, but had been revealed by the first pioneers to be little more than a rock covered in rubble and sand. its surface harbored more types of deserts than Captain Herrim cared to count, all of them inhospitable in different ways. Faint clouds promised moisture and rain but were more often contaminated by noxious gas. The water never stayed on the surface long, sinking deep into the volcanic cisterns of the crust, only to be spewed up by geysers again.

Captain Herrim didn't like this planet. It stood exemplary for the whole misfortune of Hellespont's colonization. Terrans had found this region just at the wrong time.

Just a million years ago, parts of Gamma Seven had harbored a little hardy life, but one mass-extinction too many had reduced it to microorganisms. Another million years down the line, this world might have bloomed again. But for now, it was as dead as a habitable world could be.

Or it had been, until today. The second drone had picked up the same readings: Elemental abnormalities on the surface of this world. In short, there was something where it shouldn't be, moved there by a force that on this planet shouldn't exist.

"Steady now", the captain ordered as Gamma Seven filled the screens. "Prepare for landing maneuvers and keep us a few kilometers away. We wouldn't want to disturb whatever it is."

Hello:

Impressive. Is the planet itself made?

There is an amazing tool for planet maps: https://topps.diku.dk/torbenm/maps.msp

This is the basis of the planet here. I use the map generator to create a series of base maps that I stitch together in GIMP/Photoshop & color properly. Afterwards, the new, bigger map gets put projected on a sphere in Blender and layers for clouds and atmosphere are added.

So, it's a self-made planet, but with lots of extra tools & resources to help.

Thank you for the additional information and the link. I forgot about this page again. I finally have to try out the method you described. I've already heard about it from others. So far I use a programme called Universe Sandbox. But you should always try something new.:D

And there is nothing wrong with using modern tools. All the generators I use. A whole folder in the favs of my browser just for such sites.:D
