Desert descent - RG:3 - Perry Rhodan — Description

They crossed the terminus into the planet's shadow, thrusters bright as they burned retrograde. Flames licked on the hull as the vessel plunged eagerly into the atmosphere. The void of deep space turned into a distant night sky.

Captain Herrim held his head high, eyes fixed on one of the outside monitors. Telescopes and sensors captured the sleeping world of Gamma Seven, dunes and sand beds, shallow plateaus, and ancient craters. The search for a suitable landing spot was easy enough.

On a bleak stretch of land, Argo identified the perfect, stable base. Markers on all holograms framed the spot, and number columns reflected the chatter of the navigators. The captain nodded satisfied when all lights came up green.
“All hands, prepare for final approach. We are setting her down.”

The sharp drop of the vessel slowed to a measured pace, until it was almost standing still over the desert. On the bridge, there was no hint of the engine’s roar. But their pressure threw plumes of desert sand into the air, causing the outside views to go coarse with particulates.
Before long, the dust subsided. Where the plumes of their engines touched the ground, they scorched the sand and rock underneath. The ship’s telescopic landing legs extended, and found a solid layer of almost glass.
