Part of Josh and Niko's problem is that neither one of them has a healthy self-esteem. Niko's convinced he's far more villainous than he is, and Josh's crack addiction and habits keeps him at arm's length from anyone for fear of 'corrupting' them. Unfortunately for him, Niko is far too persistant to be put off by anything so minimal as a cold shoulder.This painting is set after a 'confession' of sorts - Josh admits just how low and filthy he really is, and to his surprise Niko's response is to haul him into a crushing hug and insist that he "doesn't f*cking care." It was a really beautiful scene - very bittersweet, as a lot of the work with these two often is. I really like this in particular because it shows an aspect of the two i haven't ca[tured well in the past - as often as not, it's Josh comforting Niko when he gets overemotional. Despite appearances Josh is actuallly a very, very strong character.

This is another one I think you've really done an awesome job on. The colors in this are great- your shading and everything has really improved, I think ^_^ The emotion here is raw and intense, and it makes a poignant scene. Nicely done.

This is really sweet, Em. And of course, you know I totally adore textures, so even more so, I love this. It's very them? sad and almost hopeful at the same time.

yeah, that was what i was going for. They are so sad - even when they're actually happy there's a huge undercurrent of sad there, because you know no matter how things go it won't end well.
I like drawing josh in clothes that actually cover him. He's really quite cute when he's being demure, rather than as outrageous as he normally is.

he's so cute when he's stuffed into demure clothes - it's like a cinderella transformation, just with the resolute control factor that it's still a scrawny junkie in the clothes.
He can have some of Serge's. He's not a big man either.

I like the highlights in this one, they make the picture more alive. The atmosphere is really nice and the looks natural. Was Josh sitting on Niko's lap while talking? I like the calm and still feeling I get from this picture. I could imagine the hug lasted quite a long time.

nope, he was huddled up on the sofa next to him - he just got hauled up onto his lap for consolation and cuddles.Being so much bigger than Josh, Niko has a tendency to manhandle him - pick him up and carry him around whenever he wants josh to do something.
