I have somethin like this in my Minecraft file. I made a house next to a river and was digging a basement and found water....failure for me since I was in survival, but awesome for my house.

Simple...? That's pretty extravagant if you play in the world I spawned. Hardly any sand and not a lot of land that's not right next to a cave entrance to farm...
I could just make it in the air...

I made something similar - you know, they have to be within 4 spaces of water, running or still. So you can make a bunch of floors with the same amount of source blocks. I made mine from bedstone to the cloud layer. Needless to say, I was never short of any bread.

Placing sand will eat water away and is quick to remove. Whenever I need to drain water (normally from a 'oil-rig' like shaft, I just pour sand in.
