Description
I am trying out a new series, something to have pop up as I see fit.Furry Misconceptions! Common errors in furry art.
Today's misconception: Rabbit feet do not have pads, rabbit's feet are in fact covered entirely in fur. This is one of the reasons pet rabbits need clean litter in their cages else the urine will burn their feet.
Are there any errors you notice in furry and anthro art?

Did you have to dig under the fur to find them? 9_9

Well then you'd better head to the pet store and compare their feet . . . they may have a problem, or have sturdier OR more delicate feet as a result. (sturdier if they have actual paw pads by some random mutation, more delicate if their bare toes are merely showing and don't have the thick fur as protection as they're supposed to)Β

I think you should check to make sure.Β
Ask your vet about it on their next checkup.Β

So, you're trolling.Β
I've just had my last rabbit die recently . . . so thanks for letting me ramble on in concern. :/

"Sob stories don't work on me"
"I am an edgelord sociopath"
You knew I was talking about real rabbits, and you I guess drew amusement from my genuine fretting. And now you've jerked me around more.
You're probably misremembering your rabbit's feet- memory is highly malleable.Β

I'm pretty sure that MetellaStella didn't share their story for you to feel sorry or change your opinion, if think you REALLY needed to state that you didn't care you should re-evaluate your priorities and self confidence.

Rabbits don't have noses like a cat's or a dog's either (theirs is more dry and shaped like a "V").

rabbits don't have paw pads
STOP THE MADNESS
I've seen there's people who actually think their rabbits paw pads fell off thanks to cartoonists not getting this right. Rabbit feet need extra protection since they have no pads.
More than anything else it just irks me anytime I see a cartoon rabbit with pawpads. Although, I think some types of rabbits do have them but I'm not sure.

Might be some, a breed or subspecies, but by and large no pads at all! And the fur is surprisingly stiff and bristley.Β

Well some rabbit have pads, not all though. They could get covered later on.

I see digitigrade skunks (or skunks with four toes), while they are plantigrade. Rats with four toes may be, but THAT sometimes happen among rodents.
Absense of fifth finger on feline legs might be questionable.
Oh, and you rarely will see.. wait for it..wait.. theΒ cutaneous marginal pouch.
But I really think there is plenty of fantasy space there, just people don't need to be too single-minded. ANd what feet would have cabbit\bunnehkat? Feline or lapine, or a mix?

Nope not really, but sometimes Β there are people who just don't even know and when they do they go 'huh, I think I'll give them fluffy feet now!' and some who go 'neat info, but I like the pawpads'.

calamitasCorvus In reply to lionsilverwolf [2016-02-18 20:25:03 +0000 UTC]
not even that! Some people actually wonder if their pet rabbits have pawpads and paw sores are being interpreted as those, which is misleading (and harmful to the rabbit!)
π: 0 β©: 1
lionsilverwolf In reply to calamitasCorvus [2016-02-21 02:03:45 +0000 UTC]
I didn't even think of that! After owning a rabbit I can't ever imagine mistaking a sore for a pawpad but I can see how other people might.

Hey, some people care. What's wrong with pointing out that bunnies don't have pawpads when it's just something that most people don't know?

I'd actually say, look up to see my reply to another commenter who had a similar statement to yours.
Additionally, I only made the rabbit an anthro for illustrative effect, and because furries are the ones who seem like they make a mistake (as opposed to an intentional design choice) in this the most

Alright that's fair. I forget that dA allows you to choose how to view comments and mine is set newest-first.Β
Regardless, I keep it up because some people simply don't know, and it's better to make a decision out of informed choice rather than ignorance. So the information is there, because there's no reason it shouldn't be. And I haven't added it to the descripton simply because I forget this post even exists most of the time. And I don't think there's anything wrong with my initial wording. It's all down to personal taste in the end, these are fictional creatures after all.
