Digital Art?That's right, baby... these are 100% digital inks, courtesty of a program called Comic Studio Debut. This program is not yet commercially available in the US, but there's some perks to being part of an animation studio with ties to Japanese software producers.
The program has some pretty sweet raster pen tools, as well as an excellent set of layout and sketch tools... it really can work as a completely paperless composition program. And I haven't even mentioned the zip-a-tone tools... anything you can do with zip, you can do in Comic Studio, and it works as a digital analog equivalent. You manipulate the screen tones largely the same way you would in the real world.
It's gonna get a lot of use from me, if I have much to say about it.
Anyhow, you can compare the pencils in the gallery, or you can check out the Penciljack thread at this [link] here, where I'll have both posted side-by-side. Tell me what you think about it, hit me with comments and espescially any constructive crits that might help my inks some.

I don't think I'm gonna color this... It's gone as far as I personally care to take it. If someone else wants to do it, I won't mind, so long as they ask first and show it to me later.

hey man i luv the inkings.. i can see in the arm of the watch the low part of the arm is inked and the parto above is not it kinda looks strange.. is or maybe i am.. u are the good one inikng not me though... anyway awesome software i want ittttttttttttttttt dammit.. whats the name of the software? i didnt get it itn the msgs anyway gret work man keep it up

id say give some smoke of the cig cus its odviously being smoked, but theres no indication of cumbustion
my profs have been metioning zipatones ... and it makes perfect sense that a jap program would have alll that chit at ur disposal ... i really wanna fuck around with the real zipatone but you can fuckin find it anywhere ... there is just somthing about making a tangable piece of art i like better than just being able to slap it in with the comp ... tho it dose sound like a super bad ass program ... i really wanna see fuck around with it

Yeah, that stuff is sick-expensive, and very difficult to get, so it's cool to be able to use it in a software form. Lines, dots, gradients, greyscale, patterns, pretty much any kind of zip you can buy, this program has, and you can create new ones. Pretty damn cool, but until the producers decide who the US distributor will be, only a few people in the US can use it.
So far as I know, there aren't even any cracks out there... it's just not widely available, so no-one's bothered to place it out there. The only version that I think you can download online is a pre-beta that I've heard is available from some Chinese servers.
But man, when it hits... people will notice. Espescially given all the aspiring comics creators emerging now with such strong Japanese influences... this software is tailor-made for them.

It's the kind of goofy-ass joke you can only pull as an American... as I mentioned in the pencils, I have no clue what the kanji would be for "alchohol" or "booze", and I can't stand sake, and who knows what the slang for liquor would be...
But "fire water"... gives me a little chuckle.

Oh, on the program...
No, as far as I know there's a version you can download from China that has some limited use and is partially translated, but the main program is no good unless you can read Japanese... or, like me, you have a beta for the English-language version. I really wanted to pass it to some of my working comics pals, get their support to help get it distributed properly in the States, but I was told in no uncertain terms to kiss that thought goodbye. And much as I love my peers, I love my job even more.
Eventually I think it's coming, though, and when it does I'll trumpet it to the world. It's really pretty unique and has a lot of potential (but it's not perfect... for instance, there's no shortcut for the "magnifying glass", but "Z" isn't linked to anything! Why?!?!? )
