Oh, man. Think of what you could do with a 3 - D printer. Someday, those things are gonna be affordable to just about anyone ( Course the materials would still be pretty expensive ). & they could turn a 1 dimensional photo or drawing into a 3D work of art. I'm psychic.

oh yeah! i've always wanted to get an action figure made of some of the oc's i've come up with throughout the years. those printers would make things very very interesting indeed!
we'll have to wait and see what happens with them and how the whole process would work.

I don't get why they call 'em printers, though. Why not " replicators ", unless it's too Star Trek - ish ?
I hear they're even making synthetic DNA with them. Why not synthetic skin ( Like in the " DARKMAN " movie with Liam Neeson ) ? Or even organs ? Doc Frankenstein wouldn't have had to go scavenging for body parts if he'd had one !

the name may change for them on that you never can tell. maybe they're saving it for the next few generations of printers or "star trekish". if they're using dna then it may not be to far off from ghost in the shell with prosthetic bodies. only time will tell how this new technology will effect production.

There's already an idea about creating " organ banks " from one's own DNA, maybe 3 D will aid with that. Prosthetic bodies - I'm thinking " Time Lord regeneration " someday !

I watched that series basically so I could keep up with a girl that liked it, then I became a fan ( although not a rabid one ).
A synthetically created organ or organs created from your own tissue would be lots more compatible than a donor organ from a complete stranger. Of course MONEY will be a consideration, I'm sure.....

ahh, i see! i 've never seen all of them, but i'd like to have a marathon to get up to speed one day. money is always a factor in this and any other world we live in. at least on this earth anyway!
the more money the better off you'll be with tech for your body. the money it would take to maintain your body could be crazy! i don't know if obama care can handle it! although your absolutely right about the donors from yourself to be more compatible. well it is coming from your own cells in the first place, so it just makes sense. although someone will screw up and create a super crazy lifeform to cause havoc!

Maybe it'll be the next step in human evolution - to clone a human body & implant it with nano - tech, fiber optics, micro - circuitry, built - in processors. & when one body wears out, just graft the brain onto the clone body's nervous system. That would be almost immortality, barring an accident or major malfunction. I can see it possibly happening with the crew of a spaceship headed towards the stars, someday, just as a necessity. i definitely agree with you on that it being the next step certainly for technology but the human side of it not so much. the mind for example would take a whole lot longer to catch up with the leaps and bounds of the tech that is to come. the psychological implications of a complicated process of grafting a brain to a clone or a totally different body would be interesting to see. would there be any changes to a persons mind positive or negative?
it would definitely boost the stamina needed to deal with deep space travel as well as increase the the life expectancy considerably. with people able to live longer the population would expand as well. maybe causing people to eventually to leave earth to colonize other worlds.

The beings resulting from such a process would NOT be human, especially psychologically. They'd be used to living aboard their traveling habitats cruising through interstellar space, & Earth would be a distant memory, except for video recordings & such.
Perhaps a specific group of them would would be kept alive, " original humans " of Old Earth stock, taken out of suspension once every century or so. They might be treated like figures from mythology.
I have to say I like the idea of multi - generational " arks " heading out of our solar system. It sounds like an Arthur C. Clark idea, or Harlan Ellison's script for " The Starlost " ( Available on Youtube. ) Ellison was asked for a script idea for the Canadian Broadcasting Company, just like Gene Roddenberry, Paramount & Star Trek production, they butchered it. The man gets no respect.

that's a thought about regular humans being seen something as like unto a god, but most likely they might be seen as midevil throwbacks. not as advanced as the current species being intergraded with the current technology. if they did take them out of storage they would probably be well to do and have plenty of resources to afford the process.
i'm not surprised about anything being butchered. in the end everything has to make a super profit now. the way to almost guarantee this is that everything has to be made in a away to appeal to the masses. story and all that important stuff that goes with it is eventually stripped down for a broader audience so more money can be made.
unfortunately that it is that kind of world we live in now.

It'd be like bringing Abe Lincoln & King Tut back to life using nanites. They MIGHT be restored sometime, but aside from being witnesses to & makers of history, they wouldn't have anything to contribute to society in the 21st century or whenever they were brought back.
Harlan got justifiably steamed about " The Starlost " being botched, & before that " City on the Edge of Forever " with the original Star Trek, so his dealings with TV have been few & far between. His last work was on " Babylon 5 " as Creative Consultant, which meant that he basically evaluated ideas, but didn't write any scripts or spec scripts. He got tired of having his work hacked apart & reconfigured like a structure made from Lincoln Logs. He isn't getting any younger or healthier, so he hasn't written anything new in a while, either.

they couldn't have anything to bring to society anymore because there views and concepts would be antiquated unfortunately. they may choose a second death if they saw what the world turned into while they were gone.
that's what i'm talking about in the end it's the money for the bottom line. i'd imagine it would be very frustrating to see what you poured your heart and soul into a specific project. then have some hot shot executive come in and turn your passion into mindless fluff for the masses to eat up.

I have a feeling that you're right about all of the above.
Ellison is very protective of his creations & understandably HATES giving them over to anyone else. He collaborated with Isaac Asimov on a script for his " I, Robot " stories. Not the film version with Will Smith which was still pretty damn good, but this was a whole 'nother critter. Anyway, it got shelved after a long & venom - tinged battle with whatever studio had agreed to produce it. I had a novelization of the screenplay, it's probably packed away somewhere amidst my other items.
I haven't been on here in awhile because my computer was & is showing its age. I think it was a combination of spyware / adware & this computer's relatively old age. Gonna have to save my nickels & dimes to buy a newer model.

that's the reason why i just do it for myself now and share it out to whoever will look at it. if they enjoy what i do great if not well that's ok too. i always appreciate people for just coming by to check me out. in the end for me it's just not worth the headache to get involved with the system itself. past experiences has shown that it's just not in me to deal with all that drama. obviously mr. ellison probably for a long time felt he could but always got disappointed with the business side of things.

Hell, I'm watching the version of " I, Robot " with Will Smith, & while it's....... O.K., it's nothing like Ellison's original script & his vision. I'm surprised he hasn't sued Fox.
I promised some people on here & elsewhere that I would post eventually on here. Meanwhile, I have my acquaintance in Canada who expressed doubt as to whether I was ready, especially if I wanted to sell my work eventually. My secret : For the time being I do 90 % of my stuff using a cell phone camera. I've gotten some pretty reasonably good results. People have a difficult time believing that I use a cell cam. My little " secret ".

again i'm not surprised about his work being edited basically. you need to have total creative control and even then it's really never enough. whatever your original vision is most likely the end result won't be to your liking.
now that is a mark of a good photographer/artist is being able to use what you have at the ready to get a desired result. although having the proper equipment is a great thing, it's sometimes not necessary to have the most fancy tools. in the end it comes down to how there used and when the moment happens. at the end of the day you've captured a shot that you wanted.

He had a series idea for a show shot in Canada - The Starlost - I think they aired maybe one season, but after the pilot, he took his name out of the credits & put his pseudonym " Cordwainer Bird " in. Giving them the finger, flipping them off ! Spin on it, CBC !!
I told this afore - mentioned friend that " wait til I get Google Glass. Then no one will be safe ". I'm just old enough to remember the 1st cell phones. Clunky, boxy, angular, & no goodies like cameras. I can just snap a photograph, send it to my email, then pretty it up later. & I don't even use photoshop or GIMP ( An earlier public domain program that EATS memory ), I just use the Windows stuff that came with this HP . I think I'll " test the waters " & post a few of my better examples in a little while. Baby - steps. Caterpillar inches, etc.

i guess you've got to give him credit for trying so may times. if it were me and i had so to deal with all the politics i'd have given it up a long time ago.
heh, i remember those clunky boxes myself and had a few of them too! so i can see how you've used the phones to your advantage. particularly now with all the bells and whistles they have now. heck, it may replace the regular camera in due time.
baby steps, caterpillar or a elephant it doesn't matter, because in the end the world will see what you see. sharing that vision is what it's all about.

I got my 1st comment on a photo of an Egyptian sarcophagus 20 - something minutes ago. It's like being the cafe or deli owner who puts his 1st dollar up on the wall of his business.
After picking & choosing my better photos my brain feels like it's gonna melt down, & my eyes feel like they've been boiled, sauteed, then put through a microwave.

I shot a bunch of photos of the Moon over a couple of nights. I MAY go on & post them. I'm rarely satisfied with photos of the Moon that I've done, because it usually looks like a cottony, blobby blur in them. I need a way to brace it to counteract my sometimes unsteady hand. Truth be known, I've done good photos after a shot or 2 of whiskey. Not saying I have to get crocked to photograph, but my hand gets STEADIER. Honestly !

I can do some pretty good editing, even without photo - shop, in my opinion. Just play with the light levels, color balance, exposure, & just see what pops out. Just like taking a block of marble, carving & sculpting until I find what shape is inside the thing !

I subscribe to at least 1 photo blog online, & they talk about how old devices & methods are being brought back with digital up - grades, mostly for experimental purposes.
I subscribe to National Geographic's PROOF newsletter. They feature outstanding photography with discussions about said photographs ( Relevance, cultural, anthropological meanings, etc ). I'd recommend it, even if you're not a photographer. It's pretty good.

I'm 55, so I'll bet I know some of the same things you do.
I used to LOVE Nat'l Geographic, even if it was because of photo spreads featuring the women of Bali ( Or Fiji, or women of the Hmong tribe of Laos, the Dayaks of Indonesia or the Amazon Basin ) ! How things have changed. NG was the 1st exposure to sex for legions of adolescent boys, if they couldn't find a stray copy of Playboy.

I found a closet FULL of National Geographics in our middle school library. It was like finding the Ark of the Covenant & the Holy Grail. Most of these dated back to the 50's, 60's & before. We've changed a LOT since then.Even if the contemporary magazines don't show native women au naturel ( Native Amazon women or tribes of Papua & Bali that haven't been Westernized ).
I got a glimpse of Nat. Geo TV = It's mostly reality tv & documentaries. Kinda disappointing.

most definitely things have changed, its more conservative now. i bet those same national geographic magazines you found would never be in a school. particularly a middle school because everything is censored to death! probably deemed as pornographic and you would've been punished beyond your imagination for stumbling upon them.

Conservative = In some ways I'm conservative, in some ways real Liberal, but mostly Moderate.
I'm sure some issues of N.G. would be deemed" Child Pornography " now, because they showed nude children & teens in tribal societies all over the world. I even remember a children's aid ( sponsorship ) organization that published some pictures of nude or near - nude youngsters. That would be an ethical " granny knot " today.
I have discovered a" posterizing " function on my camera. When I take photos & use it, I get some really strange / exotic ( ? ) / downright spooky results. I shot a photograph of an angel statue at local cemetery, negativized it,posterized it, & it looks haunting. I feel like Andy Warhol, or an album cover designer in the 70's !

to me things seem to be leaning toward the extreme side of things as far as peoples mentality nowadays. it's like they want to keep that world hidden and out of sight. why? you're guess is good as mine, but to me that what it feels like. maybe afraid of people being exposed to a different type of lifestyle that is more conducive. it's sometimes funny to me who people get into a "granny knot" over little to nothing.
ah, that's great! angels and cemeteries are always interesting photos to see. you never know what you'll pick up in the background. it definitely makes for interesting results.

There are still people who get upset about shows with openly gay characters. As long as they're not bumping uglies on camera, who cares ? I think Cam & Mitchell on Modern Family would be FUN to hang out with, & I'm straight ! There was a perfectly innocent commercial with a mixed - race couple & their daughter & people got upset about that. Why, I don't know.
We need to drop labels - They should only be on medicine & toe - tags.
I have taken a bunch of photos of local landmarks & altered light levels, etc., kind of like Andy Warhol ( No Soup cans !! ) I need to take some different photos of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit covers & maybe do a collage of them, then photograph it using different light levels, but I've been too damn lazy, lately. Or a collage of Salma Hayek with different exposures ! Woo Hoo ! I'll put it on my " To - Do " list.

its the way this new world is headed and there is still a few people that can't get with the program. certainly mixed couples will always be a "thing" with a lot of people. i've seen that commercial you're talking about and it was no big deal. again there was a backlash of shock with actually seeing a interracial couple on their tvs like that.
seems like some great ideas for future projects. i know what you mean about laziness. i haven't really had the drive to make anything for a while now. guess i need to recharge before i can work on anything new.

When you see mixed couples in a place like Huntsville, AL, yep, the world is changing. Of course, Huntsville isn't some backwoods place where they're still fighting the civil war. People who don't like change had best take a trip back to the 50's. I guess this means all the people who watch Fox News religiously.
I've got some more ideas a - brewin' for projects. Trouble with my posterized photos is that most of them are too small to be listed as prints on here. I need to resuscitate my Nikon ! Of course, the beauty of using a cell - camera is that it's relatively unobtrusive & doesn't take a whole lot of room, & I can just bring it out when I see something interesting. God knows how many people I've done candid shots of ! If Halle Berry, Salma Hayek, Emily Deschanel or Sandra Oh ever make an appearance here ( Highly unlikely ), & I'm in the vicinity - Bam ! They're on Candid Camera ! A guy can dream.

to me people seem too extreme in there thinking. too far this way or way too far that way. no one seems to have a balanced perception of the world we live in. so for the most part the conflict you've just mentioned will go on indefinitely. until people begin to look at it it from a different vantage point and say "you know what"? "ive been looking at this all wrong the whole time".
i guess we can dream can we?
i can see how the phone can be way more convenient for those pics that happen on the fly. it can basically go anywhere and yeah any celeb can be photographed at any time! with or mostly without them knowing.

Holy Cow ! I haven't been on here for almost half a year ? My computer's hard drive was decontaminated after having every computer virus, spyware, malware, etc., known to humanity, Steve Jobs or Bill Gates.
Then I got some freakazoid strain of flu that kept coming back & kicking my ass. I'm just now feeling like getting back in the loop on dA. I CAN'T believe it's been this long. I posted a journal entry about it.
