I actually just zoom in on a 1x1 inch section every time I need to reference something in detail (like the corner of the mouth). I still like to grid for accuracy if I'm drawing something and need to replicate the likeness. Though if I'm doodling... I'm way too lazy to grid. Lol

That's pretty fascinating! I guess the grid work is traditional too? (As in...sans computer. XD) You make it sound so easy. I'd probably have eraser marks everywhere in minutes.
There's something about traditional art that I especially admire. Don't get me wrong, I love a great digital piece, and there's lots of really, really good digital art out there these days. But when it comes to traditional art...there's nothing else quite like it. That direct contact with the medium, the feel of it on your fingers, the way we see it in person, is what makes it truly special I think. It's the work of our own hands, ya know?

My shading was so funky on this one compared to everything else I did. Β I had been working in charcoal for the past year, and this is my first graphite work since freshman year XD Β So this actually became my experiment piece before getting into any more graphite drawings!

The first time I read this, I thought you meant that this was charcoal, and I freaked out. Lol. Glad I gave it a reread. XD
So did you originally draw/reference it upside down? I know that that's a trick for drawing faces. Or did you do it rightside up and decide that it looked better upside down? Haha.
