Now, for an introduction:
Hi. I'm general-sci. No one should care what my gender is, what the color of my skin is, whether I'm short or tall, whether I'm fat or fit, whether I'm ugly or pretty, or who I find sexually attractive. I'm here to tell stories and make kick ass artwork.
I'm coming out in support of Maryam Namazie. Why? Because no one was forced to attend that atheist meeting. No had to sit in on her presentation that was only made available for the people interested. This was not an invitation to heckle, harass and outright bully a speaker by making noise and outright shutting down her power point presentation. These are the actions of intellectual cowards and it is a mark of shame to that campus' Islam focused, LGBT focused, and Feminist focused groups for sanctioning these actions. Especially the feminist group as they are coming out in support of silencing a fellow feminist.
Shame on the people that disrupted the event, and doubly so for the people who sanctioned those actions after they were done.

Identity Politics dictating that a person's attempt at social or political discourse be shut down on the basis of that person's "Privilege" (ie. anyone who is cisgender, heterosexual, caucasian, male, and/or able-bodied, not to mention financially independent) and/or being a "traitor" to their intersectional identity (eg. Lauren Chen, Candace Owens, Dave Rubin) grinds my gears extremely thouroughly.
Forming mobs to unprovokedly harass people on the basis of their political or religious affiliation is innately wrong and should be condemned.

Indeed, especially when other religions are easily critiqued. I suppose it's all about people simply ignoring nuance. I can understand that Muslims are oppressed in western countries, but their religion is every bit as batshit crazy as Mormonism, Scientology, or anything else really.
My favorite is when a person is labeled racist for not liking Islam... which is a religion and not a race...

How can we expect to grow if we never question our beliefs, and when did criticism and different perspectives become a bad thing? As someone who enjoys making art I desire criticism because I want to grow, I crave new perspectives because I want to learn, to see the world through another's eyes, I couldn't imagine a less satisfying life than that of one hiding in a safe space, comments and ratings disabled, ears plugged up, searches heavily filtered so that only the positive stuff shows, it just sounds so dull, I want a challenge!
Likewise, it's good to see folks willing to challenge this culture, and I think more folks are starting to notice it, and point out the flaws. ^_^

In my view a 'safe space' would be one's room. I don't like the prescient that is being set here in that it seems like it's okay to invite Christian apostates to these events, but not Islamic ones. Seems rather one sided to me.

Not sure if you'll find it, seems to be a "californian gay rights" thing.
Basically it was a day of the year that all the gay/bi students of the school would duct-tape their mouths shut
supposedly to signify that people who have nothing nice to say (people who use "fag" as an insult) should stay silent.
I got suspended on silent day.
Not because I'm anti-gay or anything (I'm not), but because I decided to make it a point that taping your own mouths shut won't stop the other people from calling you FAGGOTS.Β If anything, they made themselves more easily identifiable; If you want to look up successful peaceful protests, you look for people who are outspoken, people like Martin Luther King Jr.Β Did he just stay silent and censor himself?Β NO.
But hey, if they want to brand themselves like circa 1940 Untermensch, let them.
It was those comments that got me kicked out when I was only trying to make the point that someone on their side is this disgusted with their complete retardation as to how to handle the situation.

Or at least think through their own actions and the implications of them. Feminism is a good thing. Lgbt civil liberties and representation is a good thing. Fair representation of Islam or any religion is a good thing. But marching around in lock step and behaving in a reactionary way is just terrible.
