Chapter 1

Jenny laughed as her friends packed up their bags at the sound of the night school bell, signalling the end of the night. Jenny stepped out into the lovely cool night air and sighed. She was tired and wanted to go home quickly so not to miss her favourite program, and have a cup of hot chocolate.

Shrugging her bag onto her shoulders, she walked down the street, chatting to Jasmine. They were talking about the hottest boy in the night school, then the subject swiftly moved on to the party they were having soon. Jenny laughed again as Jasmine made a joke about the teacher they just had, Mr Kimper, who taught History.
He was a funny bloke, but there were rumours going around that he was going to leave the school to go on a tour around Europe. When they finally got some answers out of him the other day, he said “I’ll be going into the outdoors, and watch history as it passes me by.”

“He’s such a plonker, I mean, the other day he tripped over a ruler! I mean come on, how dumb can you get?” Jasmine jokes, pulling a face.

Jenny sniggered and they walked passed the dumpster alley right between the corner shop and the off license. She stopped and gave her friend a hug.

“See you after the winter break, ok, Jas?”

“You betcha’!” Jasmine replied, winking.

Jenny turned the corner.
Jasmine sniggered, and turned around, starting to go back down the road to her house. Silly Jen; she complained of the dark. Everyday Jas would walk with her to the corner and then head in the opposite direction to her house. Typical.

It was quite silent now, but Jas was used to it. Adjusting her bag on her shoulders, Jas began down the road. There was a crack of thunder, and without warning, rain down poured as if it were the sea. Jas squealed as the cold hit her skin, but then she growled in irritation.

“Aw, poo.” She muttered.
Spirits lowered and boredom rising, Jas continued to walk, albeit a bit faster.
A hand reached out and grabbed hold of her bag. Jas looked into the alleyway and pulled back.

“Oh no, you don’t, I’m not losing my bag to a tramp!” she said, her temper rising, but a bit of fear crept in.
The hand released her bag and shot for her arm. With strength that made Jas scream out, only to be muffled by another hand, she was dragged into the darkness of the alley.
There was silence.

Rakene dropped the limp body into a bloodstained puddle.
He let a bit of the blood drip from his mouth, then wiped the little trail away. Lifting his head, he let the rain wash the remaining blood from his face.

He felt his canines withdraw back into his gums, taking on human teeth appearance. The rich taste of warm blood was still in his mouth, and he ravished it.

Taking out a thin dagger, Rakene slit the dead young women’s throat, hiding the 4 teeth marks so not to rouse suspicion. Little humans on earth would suspect a real vampire, but especially open-minded humans were prone to jump to that conclusion sooner or later.

Rakene smirked and pulled his hood over his head. Fastening his cloak tighter around him, Rakene withdrew further into the shadows of the alley, retreating to flee to his lair, to wait out the soon rising sun until he could hunt again.
