Description
Just a funny little satire of Dan Slott's latest abomination "Superior" Spider-Man.I REALLY don't like Superior Spider-Man, Dan Slott basically took out everything that I liked about Spider-Man and expected us to like it. No Dan, I do not like it, I cannot support a Spider-Man who's arrogant, selfish, or a murderer.
For those unaware, Superior Spider-Man is the latest Spidey series where Villain Doc Ock swaps minds with Peter and kills the latter in his own body. (No your not high he really did that. ) The worst part is that Slott is convinced that we just "Don't get" his story and that Peter's not coming back and we need to "get over it". This man does not deserve to write my favorite superhero if he's going to treat us like crap and expect us to say "Thank you sir may I have another?" This man needs to be fired.
He argued in Superior Spider-Man #9 that Peter was wrong to spare the criminals he fights and that he should have killed them to prevent them from causing more crime. And Slott expects us to agree. This is stupid, killing the villain is stooping to their level, every criminal is subject to due process and it's not his place to say who lives and who dies. It's not that he does murder, it's that Slott thinks it makes SMINO (Spider-Man-In-Name-Only) better then Peter is what I take issue with.
If you like Superior, good for you, but I don't, yes Peters return is inevitable, but I hate what Slott is saying with this story "Peter sucked, look how much better Ock is! What? You liked Peter? Well f*ck you! he's lame! Now watch me destroy your childhood by having Spider-Man shoot someone in the face!!" (No seriously, that actually happened)
All I can say is, screw you Dan Slott, Peter will ALWAYS be Superior to SMINO, he may be less effective, but he's a far better character.
Spider-Man and SMINO are (C) Marvel Comics

And thats why in my fanfic I'm writing, I'm having Superior Spider-Man much different. I mean, Spider-Man is pretty much Batman...in a way that is, as both have morals.Β

Oh, for God's sake. You all need to get over yourselves. First of all, I agree, Dan Slott needs to be fired. But not for creating Superior. For having to create Superior. I absolutely hate the way he writes Peter. Hate it. I disliked his run, and I disliked his stories, and I disliked his characterizations.
Then Superior came along. And I'll be honest. I enjoyed it far more than I thought I would. Otto behaved the best he could as Spidey. By the best, I mean the best characterization of him I've seen in a while. Certainly not the best morally, but that wasn't what the book was about. It wasn't about showing that Otto was better... "superior.." to Peter, that was merely what he himself thought. As many things as I disliked about the Superior book, those issues had more to do with the story arcs than with SpOck himself. I personally loved his character, and I wish they'd bring him back. Because Peter ain't doing anything for me anymore. The only writer I think ever really understood Peter Parker was Brian Michael Bendis.Β

May we never speak of SMINO again....

It's become clear to me the "writers" at Marvel care far more about money then the fans who give it to them. It should never be that way.
And as for writing our own fanfiction, it's funny you mention that, since I too am one of the people that did that.
foowd.deviantart.com/art/Spide⦠It's sad we have to turn to fanfiction for actual Spider-Man stories.

I know a fanfiction you may enjoy. During this one it actually alters events from Ends of the Earth all the way up to Dying Wish. This story dismantles any hope of the Superior Spider-Man I think you would enjoy it especially how they handle removing Ock.

Me too, it seems though that Mr.Slott is still convinced that were in the minority and everyone loves his crappy story. He's been tooting his horn on the Marvel Forums about how the fanbase somehow isn't the readership. (No really he said that. <.<) And basically how our opinions don't matter. What a nice guy eh?
I guess it'll take this series crashing and burning in a spectacular fashion to get him to realize maybe this stupid arc wasn't worth pursuing.

Yeah I'm well aware, it was one of the many things Slott bitched about. I personally think death threats were taking it a bit far, but he still should have expected it going in. You don't just kill an iconic superhero like Spider-Man and not get backlash.
I personally think he did this just to make a name for himself, he couldn't be famous, so he decided to be infamous instead.

I'm gonna have to go against the grain and be completely honest here. I am actually digging the new direction Slott is taking the character and on another note, I'm beyond tired of seeing old Pete yammer on and on about "great power and responsibility" when he is extremely irresponsible, himself. If he were so responsible, then why are some of the villains-Norman Osborn, Kraven, Scorpion, Kingpin, etc.-that he fights are still alive when it is completely obvious that they will not be reformed? To me, a TRUE hero is someone that is willing to enforce justice by any and all means needed to defeat all threats, and if that means killing said foes in cold blood, then so be it, for these nutjobs lost their human rights when they threatened the lives of countless innocents. It's pretty sad to see many people whining about progress that will only bring about great things for the character and push the franchise in a new direction.

You have a right to your opinion, and all opinions are welcome here, but I would like to explain myself:
I hate Superior Spider-Man because it took away the best things about Spidey (His wit, his compassion, his entire personality) and replaced it with generic "dark" anti-hero nonsense.
And not killing the badguys is a super hero staple, it's about being strong enough not to stoop to their level, to avoid becoming the very thing he fights against. Not to mention they might have people who care about them, to quote Batman from "Batman: Year One": "Even scum have families." at least, that's how I look at it.
again, if you like it that's perfectly okay, you have just as much right to enjoy Superior Spider-Man as I do to hate it. I'm just trying to explain why some of us are upset about this is all.
PS: Sorry for the rant

And as far as "Even scum have families" goes, well, maybe said scumbag's family should've stopped him before he decided to endanger and take the lives of countless innocent people. I really don't see why some heroes care what the public thinks of them, anyway. Their opinion does not matter in the long run.

Sorry to put it to you this way, but the whole "If you kill him, you will be just like him" argument is a strawman argument at best. There is no proof that a "hero" that kills a super villain that he knows will break out of *insert cardboard prison here* and go on another killing spree will become just like his fallen adversary in terms of mannerisms and moral judgment. That is a logical fallacy within itself. At the end of the day, as long as the villain stops breathing, I'd call the day saved and not worry about "stooping to the villain's level" because the hero that is mentally strong will know that killing a villain will NOT change who he or she is. Heroes that continue this compulsory cycle of jailing a genocidal maniac only for him to escape in the name of "morality" and worrying about what the ungreatful public will think of them is an issue of the "hero's" oversized ego. The Silver Age ended a long time ago, it's time for comic fans to grow up.

Okay I tried to respect your opinion, but you really ticked me off with that last line. "The Silver Age ended a long time ago, it's time for comic fans to grow up." what's that supposed to mean?! It's childish to want our favorite characters to act like our favorite heroes? That were wrong for being upset Spidey is being ruined? No, Childish is killing off a great character, replacing him with a "darker" version, and expecting everyone to love it.
So to you a hero is someone who slaughters thousands of people just because their bad? No!! That's a dark vigilante, there's a difference. I'm sorry but I think it's better Spidey gives criminals a chance to reform rather then just kill them on the spot. If you think that makes a better hero, read Punisher, Spidey was far better before Dan Slott ruined him.

*Peter Parker walks up and hugs fanbase*
Dan Slott: GET HIM OUTTA HERE! He's too nice and lame! *throws peter off of fanbase and onto floor* UR OUTTA HERE!
Fanbase: *helps peter up* Don't be mean to him, he's fine the way he is!
Dan Slott: No, he's doesn't kill people and that's make him stupid!
Fanbase: No it doesn't.
Dan Slott: Well, uh...He doesn't kill his villains and that's stupid!
Fanbase: But he's saved thousands of innocent people in his life.
Dan Slott: Yeah and he isn't a jerk and that makes him lame!
Fanbase: I'm sorry, your opinion is incorrect.
Dan Slott: NO! My opinion is fact!
Fanbase: wha-?
Dan Slott: Yep, the marvel universe is made for me! If there's something I don't like about it then it doesn't have the right to exist.
pretty much the typical argument fans have with Dan Slott.

Dear Marvel comics,
We do not need a ZOMG!HARDCORE!UBERDARK! Spider-man. We liked Spidey when he stuck to his morals and did not stare at MJ's chest and act like a creep. Otto will NEVER be a better spider-man. Undo this shit NOW!
love,
Every pissed off spider-man fan in the world
btw, did you know that even Stan Lee was against the idea. Well, that makes sense being that Dan's butchering his creation. You know, if the person who created the character doesn't like what your doing to that character, you probably shouldn't fucking do it!

Foowd In reply to hayley566 [2013-05-05 03:15:19 +0000 UTC]
Yeah I'm well aware Stan Lee hates the idea.
You summed up my feelings about this whole thing in that first paragraph. Spidey and dark really don't mix well, we didn't need another "dark" spidey, we have Kain for that. (Yeah apparently Kain came back and he's Scarlet Spider now <.<)
It's not that I have a problem with someone else taking on the mantle of Spider-Man, but they made Peter go out like a bitch, at least Ultimate Peter died heroically and Miles is, you know, not savagely beating criminals within an inch of their life! -.-;
