Description is there a specific name to this? probably not.

I've seen a lot of artists lately whining about this. Especially those "self taught" artists. That's fine and all, but tutorials actually do help. They're like a way for artists to communicate with each other and share ideas. It's like people to be inspired by a person or company.
Tutorials have personally helped me in a lot of background elements and anatomy. It helps if you don't copy the artist completely - you are supposed to improve on your own terms.

I can't agree more to this! Tutorials helped me a lot. Even though I mostly do traditional art, but some digital art tuts helped me too. I need all the help I can get eheh!

I consider my self 50% self-taught; I look up a lot of tutorials, but most of the time I teach myself how to draw things. The only real things I struggle with (which takes up most of my tutorials that I use) is humans, animations, and emoticons. So I suppose it's 50/50 split of how I learned...

i get what you mean! even though i try to be a creative artist i feel like i'm so smart that i don't need to use the tutorial and then then in the next 5 minutes, i am found with a tutorial screen on my laptop. XD
