Description
EDIT October 9, 2008: Updated script to work in GIMP 2.6 (the newest stable version.) If you have a previous version of this script, please delete it to avoid conflicts.Let me know if you have any trouble with it.
This is a GIMP version 2.6 script version of my Lord of the Rings Text Tutorial located here: fence-post.deviantart.com/art/β¦
Just add some text to your image, click on the script (Filters Menu > Alpha to Logo >Lord of the Rings...) and choose the settings you desire. My preview above was created by adding 3 separate text layers of various font sizes, merging them together and then running the script using the default settings. There are 3 different gradient blend styles to choose from: Dimpled, Angled, and Spherical. Dimpled looks the best to me so I've set it as the default. But, experiment to see what looks best to you.
It works well on any font, giving it a hard-chiseled edge, but obviously works best on the Ringbearer font, which you can download here (www.dafont.com/ringbearer.font⦠and elsewhere on the web.
Just click on the download link to open the script in your browser window and then save it (File Menu > Save) in your GIMP scripts folder (ie....C
Then, go to the main GIMP window (not the image window) and choose the Filters > Script-FU > Refresh Scripts. Go to the Filters Menu > Alpha to Logo >Lord of the Rings...to access the script.

The link is actually to a now defunct site that hosted the actual tutorial; I'm in the process of rewriting the tutorial and will post it here.Β However, the script is still good and you can download it by clicking on the download button on the right side of the screen just above the "More from fence-post" thumbnail images.Β Let me know if you have any problems and I'll help you out.

Hi. Great font! I don't know if you're still around, but if you are, can you point me to the .scm file? It doesn't seem to be included in the download from "dafont". I'm not even sure I need it. I can get the font to pop up in a text box, but Refresh Scripts fails to bring up any new procedure under Alpha to Logo. Thanks in advance!

I read the tutorial as well.
How did you figure out how to do this?
It's awesome!
Thanks, Kac0802

Works fine for me. Did you have the previous version of the script installed? If so, you need to remove it. If you have more than one version of the same script (even if the file has a different name) it will cause conflicts. If that's not the case, let me know and I'll try something else.

This is beautiful!!
But I can't save it in a format that GIMP will read. I only get the following choices: .html/.html , .mht , .txt. What am I doing wrong? LOL Sorry, very new at this.

A lil question - How do you put the dowloaded fonts fron Dafont into GIMP, if you can? I tried doing it the same way I install downloaded brushes [only in the font section of GIMP] and the font doesn't show. Could you maybe help me on this? Pwease?

I actually place them in my Windows font folder: C:\Windows\Fonts Then refresh the fonts and hopefully they should appear. I never use the GIMP fonts folder.

Thanks for the fave! I like it, too! It's also cool to fill the text with a texture and then run the script and keep the "original color".
No, I haven't heard anything from him yet.
