it's true, everyone is doing this meme! and why not? it's such a great ideameme by - [link]
ok (forgive me for the long explanations) so I'll go from top to bottom, left to right:
Queen has been my favourite band since my aunt moved back here when I was 8. I was 8 years old singing We Will Rock You and Fat Bottomed Girl (that was the one she played the most) and now I have a massive Queen repertoire and can sing several without looking at the lyrics. Many a picture has been drawn while humming along to Freddy's amazing voice.
The maple leaf as a symbol of my beloved Canada. I am very proud and also very lucky to live in such a wonderful place where our stereotypes are saying Eh and being polite. I think that's pretty awesome, and I fit that stereotype ^^ (not a drinker though)
ancient art/architecture is beautiful to me. When I was 10 I was insane about Egypt, then Greek and Roman and Celtic influences followed. I've always been intrigued by Stonehenge and especially since I saw it in person I adore the Winged Victory statue, it's my favourite piece of sculpture.
Harry Potter! I was the perfect age when the books were getting famous and the movies started coming out. It isn;t just the fact that's it's about magic, it's the way she wrote them, the thought she put into them and the joy that this series has brought to me and so many others. No matter what age I am, the books and films will hold a special place in my heart.
Disney films, especially Beauty and the Beast, Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Great Mouse Detective. They were the ones I watched continuously as a little kid and they had such great music and the characters rocked. I honestly think I have more appreciation and love for these movies than I did then!
Musicals, including Phantom, Wicked and so very many more. I don't know what it is about musicals but I heard a quote once that went something like "You sing when you can no longer speak and dance when you can no longer walk," and I really liked that. I think musicals just add another layer to what could already be a great show and you can can quote movies but to sing a song while remembering an entire scene and the way the characters moved...it's a very different thing
deviantArt itself! For the last 5 years the main thing that has lept me involved in art has been this amazing worldwide community of likeminded people, so I thank you all for that, my friends and watchers and everyone who participates and make this site great
film in general. There are far too many films to simply make a collage of my favourites cause I would forget several and I can only fit so many into a block. Film has been a big part of my life and how I think and see things. If I continue this comment will be way longer than it already is.
Classic literature, you can read the names, these are the ones I've read the most and remember the best and I've always had a thing about the classics. I hope every generation has enough interested to keep them alive and I'm sure there will be.
A Celtic design for the largest chunk of my heritage. Most of my family came from Ireland and Scotland and just last year I really started delving into the history and I appreciate it even more than I did and it has influnced some of the recent things in my sketchbook
Shakespeare. EVERYONE should know at least a little bit of Shakespeare as he has influenced probably at least one thing you're interestied in. He came up with several words we use today and his plays are the basis for so many other stories and ideas. I just love Shakespeare. (especially the comedies)
Nightmare Before Christmas because it's awesome and the story was so good, such a wonderful idea to have a skelleton yearning for brightness and cheer over the darkness and fear of his own world, and the realization of what he really is and what he can do.
Finally The Princess Bride and Labyrinth. They are the 2 live action films I have loved since I was around 5 years old. Over a decade of love and I'm not tired of them yet! They're just so wonderful, I can't imagine never watching them again, they've meant so much to me.
