Description What's this ? Another comic with only one range of color ?? That's... actually not that absurd, coming from me.

When I was done with the inking and shading of this comic, I became really hesitant to add the colors in and to post it. It's actually a followup to ''Usual Saturday Night'', I had planned to start a little story out of it, to follow both our main leads throughout the day with the snailtoads crisis and the power-outtage...
That's the issue : I was starting to plan story-plots, characters-arcs, chapters. And that's not why I actually have this comic right now. It's a sandbox, it's supposed to have no-continuity.
I mean... it's obviously still silly, what with a girl being swung around by some big guy from the edge of a balcony, but that's the poorly rendered joke I have for you, today.

Just this time around, the POV is shifted to that kind yet gullible boy right here. And no luck for him, he met Roxy and Marion, the gals always getting into some kind of otherwordly cosmic trouble.
I... don't have much to say. Tune in another time for more wacky nonsense with Avenue Refrain !
Did I sell it good ?

In all seriousness, thank you for passing by and reading this comic. It was fun to put a little more environment into the panels and making the characters move around the page more freely. I hope you enjoy it too !

"Did I sell it good?"

Gotta love your conviction, L. Just imagining you with your hands stuffed in your coat pockets, kicking your feet, and staring at the ground, all like, "Yeah here's my thing...like it, or don't."

I think taking the perspective away from Marion and Roxy and placing on someone different, even for just one comic strip, is perfectly fine. It's important to have the perspective of your main characters, sure, but sometimes shifting it to somebody else for a brief time can add a new light, or show how the world reacts to protagonists, rather than they reacting to the world. It also can establish a new story arc, or a character's disposition towards the protagonists. You can use it in plenty of strategic little storytelling ways.

And already delving deeper into the oddity of the world these characters inhabit, or the one they make for themselves. Roxy washing her hair using water bottles than any shower or running water is pretty goofy in itself, but I find myself wondering why she started doing that. Is it some kind of beauty tip in their world? Did her parents teach her that? Does she even have parents, and if she does...are they, hypothetically speaking, 'normal?' What with the snailtoads there, the power is still out so it makes sense why she used to the water bottles and water needed to be delivered. Still though, those are the kind of questions that enter my mind when reading this comic.

I think I've said it before but I like the overall body shapes of Marion and Roxy. Roxy's short, filled out, smooth, soft. Marion's rigid, severe, straight. Both body shapes adhere to their personalities and that's important on a visual medium I believe. I find it interesting that even though Roxy doesn't find what she did at all strange, she's still a little put off by Marion's hurried and agitated manner regarding an apron. I love Marion's reaction. Her bubbly nature can be easily POPPED by Marion defaulting to annoyance at the first hitch in anything. Roxy's a bit more flexible that way. "Also, hi guy." That's just friggin' great. I just imagine in the future Roxy bringing new friends over and introducing them to Marion, and Marion being all like, "Nice to meet you. Get out." But Roxy's inviting and outgoing manner are really refreshing. The fact that she just lets folks saunter in doesn't strike me so much as her being unsafe but her being a good judge of character, something that Marion might lack considering she's a little, ya know, anti-people.

And the ending. Who doesn't love that song? And just imagining a big fellow swinging a singing gal back and forth off a balcony is just plain funny to me. And the sort of put-upon reaction by the lower tenants, combined with the choice of song, make a bizarre, funny ending. And it's a rounded one too; the first frame begins with our water carrier arriving happily to deliver water, and ending with him more than ready to leave out of sheer stultification. Just a well-rounded little story. Excellent work!

Hah ! I'm burning with confidence, aren't I ?
''Sooo, I did a thing... Hope it's not too bold to assume ya'll like it but yanno, 's fine if you don't...''

I'd say the ''hypothetical camera'' generally follows both girls around but this time around, it's clearly pinned on that guy's shoulder: we see things pretty much at the same rhythm as he does all throughout this comic. Maybe it'll be a secondary POV character from time to time, sort of having an exterior perspective on things going on. Or just be a welcoming change from the quick pace of Roxy or the slow pace of Marion. He's supposed to be more ''in the middle''. Also, contrarily to the other residents, this guy doesn't have any opinion forged on the girls yet. Both first impressions he gets aren't the most glamorous : Roxy acts crazy, Marion is cold.

Aha ! I do have a fair idea what her parents are like, as well as Marion's. When making this comic, I was more thinking of what actually happens when you have a power-outtage at my parents' home (because it takes more time before it's fixed). Nothing works and water doesn't run : my parents made it an habit to buy big gallons of water and collect water bottles as well. However, considering how Roxy's parents are like, they would have taught their daughter to make the most of a difficult situation : now's to see how she actually puts in action their teachings. She might have kept half of that knowledge at a nearby distance, while the rest is out of reach.

Ah, whether you said it or not before, thank you. Their bodyshapes are opposites, much like their personalities, and I think it it makes them more visually interesting as a pair. I'm not really a fan of lookalikes with identical faces and bodies but having a main duo composed of two contrasting characters makes them a little more easier to put into design. On that subject, it's not as if I don't understand why american (superheroes in DCcomics) or japanese (manga/anime, depends just who it's targetted to) comic books have characters with similar appearances : it's just more attractive to look at the whole cast. Or that's what I understand : somebody can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Yeah, that's really something I like to make clear with their relationship. They don't get along but in a way, Marion is the one making it worse. I'm sure I'll find a better way to pin how dry her tone can get (despite the fact that, well, I have no way to make it audible), but her cold demeanor really hinders on Roxy's attitude.  Not that Roxy isn't frustrating in her own ways. She makes a mess and she doesn't contribute to the rent. Even if she is carefree and puts little thoughts in her actions, Roxy is very receptive to Marion's words.
Marion is definitely one to come back home and when she finds Roxy accompanied by new friends, she flatly tells them to go anywhere else as long as it's not in her face. At work, she grits her teeth and keeps the nice facade, but in her own domain, that's one big thing to ask out of her. It made me chuckle a little to read the way you phrased her possible response, that really fits.
However, Roxy is more of the naive overly trusting kind. Thankfully, ''Palm-Tree-Head'' is genuinely a nice guy (you know, there are nice guys and ''nice guys'' : I consider you a part of the former type) so it was a good bet on her part. And Marion is definitely anti-people but she didn't insist on him leaving right then and there once she saw him.

There was a lot of changes in that last panel.
At first, I had her singing ''I believe I can fly'' and Adam, the guy on the floor underneath, was supposed to say something along the lines of ''If you puke on my balcony, you'll touch the sky alright...'' which I think would have been a little more funny. Ahh, should have put that joke in.. oh well. Guess I wanted to add a bit more context.
I do think it's a funny surreal joke to end this comic on.. I was just considering that maybe it fell a little too into the ''lol random'' category. Ahh, she just wanted to try having her hair dry up that way, that's more fun than using a boring towel ! ''Palm-Tree-Head'' isn't really the most expressive of the characters but you're right, it is funny how he goes from ''Hi nice to meet you'' to ''Can I go now ?''. Slight annoyance when he realises what he has to deal with. Next comic will have a different kind of gag this time around but I do hope you'll still find it enjoyable !
