Description
Lucilla was nervous about being in the unfamiliar place, but Shen didn’t seem worried at all. She let him take over, feeling safe near him. He was her rock, and whenever they were together, anything had felt possible. The past year together, despite all the hiding and secrecy, had been the best of her life, and she had never felt more like she had someone to call her own, someone who really understood her for who she was, not her status.
Together, she and Shen danced, free from the burden of being Lucilla Dane and her secret affair. In a place like this, they were just Lucilla and Shen, fellow partygoers. No one recognized her, they were all too busy living normal, if conceited, American lives.
That was, until two Italian brothers approached, having recognized her as soon as they had walked in.
Their names were Thomas and Adrian Alfari, twins who were formerly of immense, self made wealth, until they lost it all through legal battles and restitution following an indictment from the Italian government for extreme amounts of fraud. Half a decade later, and now in their mid-thirties, it seemed, on the surface, that the once well off brothers were looking for some way, any way, to make a comeback to wealth and high society status.
The twins had gone in deep. Following the loss of all their assets, they had been destitute, reduced to practically wandering the streets of Italy, no home nor way to travel elsewhere. But that had all changed when they met a mysterious man in his early thirties who only called himself: Ruffian. It was Ruffian who took them in. He fed them, clothed them, and gave the brothers a roof over their heads.
The more time they spent with him, the more they came to share his ideology. The rich, the powerful, the one percent, they all had their secrets. To Ruffian, these people were far more evil than the supervillains and criminals of the world. Hell, most of those people were just trying to get by, but the rich folk, they were evil just for the thrill of it, in Ruffian's eyes.
Thomas and Adrian had witnessed some of this first hand. More so, however, the brothers wanted revenge. Revenge on those who had exposed them, and the whole world they had once been a part of. To them, Ruffian was the enemy of their enemy, and therefore, a friend. And so, the three formed The Inquisitors, a gang determined to bring about the exposure of some of the “elite’s” darkest secrets.
The gang had grown in secret, to international renown, but was practically unknown. They moved in complete silence, undetected by governments, superheroes, and even the International Spy Agency. But, funds were beginning to run short, and it was time for them to make themselves known.
That was why Thomas and Adrian just happened to be at the same bar as Lucilla Dane. A little cash to an underpaid staffer in the Dane family, and they knew exactly where she would be. Everything was going according to plan…
