I'm a sucker for mountain men poses, my portrait 1982 [link] but are those sheep skins on the lower legs? my reading indicts leather upper pants with legs of blanket wool. As trappers spent hours in knee high water such chaps would be impractical. See if you can find a copy of "The West of Alfred Jacob Miller,'' this artist attended the Rendezvous of 1837 his water colors are the most complete contemporary record of what the mountain men actually looked like.
