Silurian legend said that one day their people would find a promised place; a home for all time where their kind could be safe. For many centuries the Silurian people wandered Remanent, ever in search of this foretold home. While it has been nearly 200 year since permanently settling in the dormant volcano of Mistal, not all of Silurian blood rest there.
Over 700 years ago, a faction of the clan became restless. At the time the clan had settled in a canyon, safe from both humans and most Grimm. After staying for over a decade, a long stretch for them to stay in one location, the leader decided it was time to move on. There were many from the clan who did not wish to go. They felt this was the 'promised land' and saw no reason to leave, though this land didn't match the land described so long ago.
The leader of the clan, Cadmus Icthar was displeased by this "betrayal" of the splinter group; viewing them as traitors to the Goddess Sirona. The splinter group was lead by a man named Vastra Attor, a once close friend to Cadmus and leader of main hunting party. After much arguing, fighting and unnecessary death, the two parted ways. The splinter group, later renamed The Vastra after their first leader, stayed in the canyon while the rest of the Silurians moved on.
There was no contact between the now two clans for the nearly seven centuries, except perhaps once. It was never discovered if a baby, Asmodeus Lokai, found abandoned in the village center over 400 years ago was a Vastra. No one from Siluria claimed him and he possessed green hair, a trait almost dead in Silura but still carried strong amongst the Vastra.
The two clans cultures have grown very different, though still worship the same Goddess. The Vastra are more combat oriented, always ready to defend their home from Humans or other Faunus. They have no hereditary leader, but a trial by combat to determine a new ruler; always allowing the current leader children to fight, cause an occasional line of succession to form. They also view Sirona as a war Goddess rather then one of motherhood and fertility. Many female warriors carry spears, Sirona's weapon of choice, in her name and are seen as blessed with her fighting spirit.
The two clans, Silurian and Vastra, remained separate and with no contact for so long, both nearly forgot about the other. Legend mentions them as one, but besides the leaders and keepers of history most common folk no nothing of the sister tribe. That was till new leaders came to both clans, and happenstance brought them together.

Born to one of the many warrior families of Vastra, Jade Valeane grew up like most children of her village. She learned to hunt, fight and to be a productive member of the clan; but unlike many she also had a thirst for adventure. She would often sneak out of the village to train and explore, even having run-ins with other people on occasion. As she and her skills grew, she had a strong desire to change things, open up her people to new cultures and experiences and ending the centuries of isolation. When she was 20 years old the clan leader, Norite Morka, was fatally wounded in a hunt and so a tournament was called for to crown a new leader. Most believed Norite's son Basalt would easily win, as he was openly seen as the best candidate in the village. Though he was the toughest opponent and had almost ten more years of training, Jade put him down and won the crown of Vastra. She chose to spare Basalt , seeing him as worthy warrior to keep around, a decision many disapproved of.
It was hard at first for the new ruler, she knew so much of combat but little of politics and command. Her plans of opening the village to trade were being put down by many and Basalt was stirring up trouble behind the scenes. As the new leader Jade was told the history of the clan and the truth of their separation from the rest of the Silurian people. This inspired her, sparking her desire for adventure and so she decided to search for their lost sister tribe. This would be tough however as so many years had gone by and no one knew where the Silurians had gone.
As luck would have it, the recently appointed leader of Siluria, Ragnar Vladimir, was not far from their home. He was on a mission in Vacuo with the rest of Team MJOR, and she just happened to run into them. While normally she'd be hostile on first meeting strangers, but seeing Ragnar excited her to no end. She spent all night talking with him, learning about their peoples shared and separate histories. Ragnar too was overwhelmed with meeting a Vastra woman and learning they still existed and were thriving. His teammates Master Halo and Jen were happy to see him open up so easily for once, while his partner Orian was shipping the two the whole time. Jade did start to develop feelings for Ragnar in this short time, but knew how forbidden it was to love an outsider, regardless of him being the same race. On the rare occasions that did happen, it never ended well and as the new clan leader it would never go over well with the people.
Things weren't going well back in the Vastra village while Jade was gone. She naively left Basalt to watch over the clan and he stared to enact a takeover plan. Luckily she and Team MJOR returned in time to quell those plans and finally put Basalt down for good. She introduces Ragnar to the village and to her shock they didn't want him dead on sight. Actually meeting a Silurian was so intriguing and amazing to them that many started to open up to Jade's plans for the village. The two agreed to open relations between Vastra and Siluria and Team MJOR helped by giving them some Atlas tech for life improvements and to keep in touch. Though Jade had fallen for Ragnar, she knew it wouldn't work and though flattered by her feelings he did not reciprocate. The two chose to stay friends and be professional, promising to keep communication with the sister tribes open from now on.
