Amazing depiction of an old house ......
Lay down and listen to the mysterious sounds given forth by this old house at night, the creaking, rustling, and sighing …. behind those walls a diary it holds....

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EintoeRn In reply to VisitingFahrrad [2013-03-13 19:38:24 +0000 UTC]

It was a house not very well protected from north-sea and elbe river floods. life must have been quite scary there in times of storm floods ...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

VisitingFahrrad In reply to EintoeRn [2013-03-14 23:35:27 +0000 UTC]

I often biked along the Elbe river and it looked so peaceful!
All along the river between Dessau-Roßlau, Wittenberg, Meissen and Dresden I noticed on few homes markings commemorating the level that the river reached on the walls of the houses, it must have been impressive.
But then I witnessed it swell in 2011 (not as bad as in 2002) and this was really impressive .....
I can picture how life must have been scary by the river and to top it having the stormy north sea to contribute to the demise of the house you depicted!

EintoeRn In reply to VisitingFahrrad [2013-03-15 06:55:05 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes, inland it can be also very bad.
I was referring to this traumatic event, however. [link]
The house is located where you can read "Cranz" on the top left of this map of this flood: [link]

VisitingFahrrad In reply to EintoeRn [2013-03-15 21:04:28 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for the links.
I checked Cranz (a very very small town), seems to have (or used to have) some ship building activity?
I can picture by it's proximity to the Elbe and the North Sea on bad stormy days, how it could have lead to this event.
I did not know about 1960, 315 dead in Hamburg alone and 60,000 homes destroyed ......
Wow das war eine große Katastrophe!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

EintoeRn In reply to VisitingFahrrad [2013-03-16 20:46:25 +0000 UTC]

Cranz is actually a suburb of Hamburg.
