i bought the book the art of the wind rises. I found out that 5 steam locomotives appeared in the film and miyazaki has their class number. first part was possibly a a 0-4-0t 国鉄ケ90形蒸気機関車, 4-4-0 国鉄6700形蒸気機関車, JNR Class 9600 2-8-0, JNR Class C56 2-6-0, and a Bavarian S 3/6 4-6-2.

the words in Japanese are from the Japanese Wikipedia source. so i hope it's helpful.

I already figured out all the classes.  the S 3/6 was instantly recognizable, the others only took a bit of searching my memory

Actually I consider myself about as far away from a railfan as one can get.  I love steam locomotives and railway systems for entirely different reasons than most have the capacity to understand....
