Playing around more with light, texture, and hopefully improving in depth...Probably took between 2-3 hours of work for this, most spent on the background and going back and forth with different colors and whether to use textures or brushes (ended up using only various brushes and no texture for nebula clouds). Also a decent amount of time on the planets.

Lightning effect seems to be pretty fair, good one I mean. Have you tried any soft ligh layers on the image? It could give a nice effect.
