From both sides. As well as my great grandparents.
So The Holocaust suffering manages to run in my blood as well.

I am very interested. WW2 and the Holocaust are both things that have effected my family in major ways, and still effect me today. So I made it my job to know as much about it as possible to spread better awareness of it. You would be surprised how ignorant people can be.

I know how ignorant they are, I've seen it here. But it's nice to hear you are interested. In which more, in Holocaust or in the WW2 itself?

Both, for different reasons. I have to admit the Holocaust is mentally harder for me to learn about, but they both hold great interest for me.
Especially after visiting Yad Vashem (a holocaust museum in Israel)

Basically all of my family (except us) live their xD
And to be able to visit Yad Vashem was something i had wanted to do for years.
And actually we also came in just to double check if they had my grandmother's birth certificate. Because you see, she was born in one of the concentration camps (its name escapes me at this moment) and she never knew her true birthday. Last time I came they found something like a letter of the time she was born but not the date.
Sorry, I'm probably boring you xD

The museum is so beautifully done. I have no words of how powerful it was.
And because I've learned about it so much, I do cry about it many times yes, But I am so numbed down to it now that learning about the Holocaust just gives me anger, not tears.
But the one thing that made me cry was this huge mural, frankly the picture was quite blurry but it had such a large effect on me. It was a picture of a Nazi soldier aiming his gun at this woman, her back faced to him, holding her four year old child cowering in terror, trying to protect him. The nazi's eyes were aimed towards the camera, a small smile playing on his face. I've seen people so skinny that they were walking toothpicks, i've seen a bulldozer brushing thousands of bodies aside. I've seen babies being brutally murdered. But just that one act, that almost seemed like for play/target practice seemed so inhuman and downright evil that I couldn't help but shed a tear for that poor mother and her child. We all knew what happened after that picture. (And naturally I also got very angry, I had never been more angry after visiting this museum.)

That's really sad story. It's true, there happened terrible things, and I can't stop wondering how the guards could be like that. Did they really enjoy it, did they have another choice. I guess I'll never get the answers.

Avangelina In reply to DieWalkyrie [2012-07-12 13:43:27 +0000 UTC]
Well I suppose I could answer that partially.
No, no one had a choice. But they were persuaded what they were doing was right, and because they had no other choice, and all the public believed this was the right thing to do, they were forced to have a complete change of heart.
A lot of them knew it was wrong, but were under great peer-pressure. Others were happy it gave them an excuse to kill and harm. Others just went along because it was their duty and their work. Others thought that the propaganda was true.
Not everyone was the same, but I can tell you that there were a lot of them that did know what they were doing and loved it.

Indeed, and they were taught that jews weren't humans. I guess that made them easier to kill so many of them.
I know a lot of them too, Irma Grese, Maria Mandel, Ilse and Otto Koch... But there were also those who protected jews. I heard a story about a SS officer who married a jewsish girl. She changed her religion and they were happy together.

Well, it all varies. Because, as you said, they were human.
But I don't believe anything will ever persuade me to tolerate their existence (but of course not including those who attempted to help)
I'm really enjoying the conversation by the way xD

Avangelina In reply to DieWalkyrie [2012-07-14 15:47:52 +0000 UTC]
Why not?
You seem very articulate, and what you have to say about the matter at hand is very insightful, and nearly crossing the line of wise.
Don't underestimate yourself, being intelligent doesn't mean being book smart, but just being naturally insightful of the world around you.
And I believe you are, very much so.

DieWalkyrie In reply to Avangelina [2012-07-15 07:29:09 +0000 UTC]
Because I have always some bruises or wound and stupid because I can't understand their problems in the way the wants. For me it's hard to understand feelings since I'm dead inside.

Avangelina In reply to DieWalkyrie [2012-07-15 17:41:59 +0000 UTC]
Well, I suppose the only advice (though you didn't ask for it xD) I can give you is just not to waste those people's time. You have captured and completely understood the feelings of all these ss officers better than anyone could. Those people you speak of think that the way they feel inside is the correct way, but maybe it isn't, maybe they're the stupid ones.
Spend time with the people that do think you are intelligent, and if I think you are, there are most likely many more out in this world that will think you are.
Sorry if this is no help to you. But it saddens me to think that this society has caused you to feel awful about yourself.

Well, one person in this world thinks you're intelligent, if you can't believe me that there are many others.
I'm so sorry that I can't help you, I know you don't want it. But I sincerely wish I could. You seem like a great person, and its awful that sometimes you're disabilities hide the true you.
Just...keep on trucking I suppose

There's a reason to it. I didn't get help when I tried to commit suicide five times, I didn't get any help when I was bullied. I didn't get any help when I lived ten years in hell, and I still don't get any help with my uncurable illnesses. To be honest, my friends doesn't know about them, since they are not interested. I can't remember the time when my parents asked me am I allright. I've been near death so many times, and still I don't hear anyone asking "how are you".

I know this seriously means nothing to you.
But after hearing your story, I really want to help you, as a friend.
I know you don't know who I am, but I hope that you know I really care for you.
So please, if anything is ever on your mind, don't hesitate to talk. I may not say anything worthy of any bible, but I'll always be here to listen.
How are you?

DieWalkyrie In reply to Avangelina [2012-07-18 14:45:56 +0000 UTC]
The problem here is, that I can talk to people through computer. When I have to meet them face to face, I can't say a word. They keep on talking and I'm the one who stays quiet at the corner. That's why I know a lot of people, but I don't have real friends. They just keep telling me how their lives suck. I wonder does anyone know me so they can really say the know me well. I doubt it.

Avangelina In reply to DieWalkyrie [2012-07-18 16:10:24 +0000 UTC]
Well, here is maybe a suggestion. Invite your "friends" to DA, and see if they are truly your friends by talking to them through the computer. If it is easier to get your emotions out this way of course.
Because it seems like I know more about you then your friends do, but that can change if they are put in my shoes. Do they know how talented you are? I mean, I can understand if you had just given up and had accepted that your life sucks, but wouldn't you want to fight to be happy one more time? Just to see if maybe you can truly make friends this way? I mean, just to be frank, what do you have to lose?
I have a friend in a very similar predicament as you. We were all in a group of friends and her voice was never heard, they shaped her into something she's not because they wouldn't let her talk. Until I decided to take her away from this group and get to know her. She is my closest friend now. It was the best decision of my life.
I know that you may not have someone there to do this for you. But if you try to have your voice heard...

My closest friends are from dA, but unfortunately the one who could help, argues with me all the time, from how I draw, what I draw, music, everything.
People my parents call my friends doesn't know mem nor my parents. It's really, really hard to be happy again. I've been bullied through my schooltime, so badly I still have visible scars. To make things worse, I have lots of mental problems, and everyday I have to go through huge pain. My other lung won't sometimes work since there's blood in it, my back is cilling me, I have something wrong with my feet so walking feels like I'm walking on razors, I have muscular dystrophy, uncurable repetitive strain injury and to crown it all, I can't eat painkillers because of a bloodsyndrome which can cause death. Happy life indeed.
I suppose it was a girlgroup, since, ti be honest, girls usually do that. Then there are girls, like you, who cares those who are quiet. I have to say, hat your friend is a really lucky one.
I've tried it many years, now I had given up.

I understand. Well, I can't truly understand the pain you are going through. But I understand that there is nothing I can do to help.
Maybe you should write a book about your predicament. The best art comes from suffering, and you are an extremely talented human being.
Is there any way that you distract yourself from your pain? Or any way I can help to distract you from it?

Here is too much I survived from this and that - books, and I really don't want any mark of me to the next generations. I', the one, and will alwayus be the one lurking in the shadows.
Not actually. A friend of mine was the only one who could do it, and I haven't talked to her in ages. After a while the physical pain will bring back the mental pain.

Looks like some of my nightmares. Kinda reminds me of the one where I was baby-sitting some baby and just KNEW someone was in the room, but I couldn't see them. Someone even checked and I could still sense someone was in the room. I couldn't get back to sleep after that.
