Description Nobody thought of THIS , eh ?
See, while others were busy pissing and moaning about this otherwise fantastic movie that took tijuana bibles of sketchy myths about a plethora of degenerate sociopaths that make our current supervillains tame by comparison, yours truly has noticed that Disney actually kept the ONLY crucial info about Greek mythology : HADES IS THE COOLEST DUDE EVER
 www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZdCO9…
Granted, the Original one is cool in the sense that he's a pretty chill guy who just minds his own and never reneges on deals (that he rarely ever does BTW...). The Disney one is cool in the sense that he fucking puts the screen ON FIRE anytime he's on (movie or TV series...yeah, that one was pretty good too !). Also, if they switch places, antic myths will FINALLY have someone to properly root for ! What ? Disney Hades will kill people ? Well, good, that will guarantee them somewhere to go once they die ! Rent's cheap, crowd's calm, firm's working, I mean why complain ? Amirite ?! Plus that's waaaay nicer than what OG Zeus fucking does...and no, that's not an arbitrary adverb...
Anyway babe, gotta swing away ! BYE !

P.S.: This dialogue is to be read in James Woods' voice. I mean, you know how hard it was to write that down ?! But it was fun !

Yes, Hades in mythology is not like Hades in the Disney movie, as Hades is not so ruthless, he is just condemned to be the ruler of the underworld, although sometimes he is an asshole. Yes, he also took Persephone in the beginning in a dishonest way. Certainly the Disney version of Hades is the ultimate villain legend and one of my favorite Disney villains. They can't even come close to him today. Excellent artwork and good crossover.

Funny enough in earlier drafts of the movie, Hades was going to be an ally and they would have kept Hera as Hercules' antagonistic foe. But seriously, Hades with James Wood voice just steals the show and makes you forget that it's not mythically accurate. But even with the villain treatment, the ancient Greeks feared Hades, so until the modern day he wasn't popular.

Because OG Hades is the god of All Riches

Surprisingly, OG Hades leaves that "God of Riches" a bit behind. It's never really used much in any myth I know of...

Of all the "Movies vs Myths" you made, this one has to be the most appropriate compared to the other two (that I know of).

Wait! I just remembered something. How about you do Disney's Hera and the actual Hera (even though I have never watched Hercules, I know she is caring in that movie, which is not what she's like in the myths).

Yeah about the worst thing original Hades did was that whole Persephone fiasco...oddly something Disney Hades never bothered with, probably due to the whole making him more like the devil thing. No love interest for him! Seriously though, Hades is one of my favourite Disney villains. I think he actually is my favourite male villain, anyway.

Great picture, you should draw him more often! You really nail his look :D (Big Grin)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

devilkaisdevilkais In reply to GryllidaeJ [2017-12-08 01:01:37 +0000 UTC]

Even that really depends on the version (my favorites are where Persephone ends up liking the guy... though to be fair, he's one of the few nice ones in the pantheon...).
The problem would be how Persephone should be written . Maybe if they give her a personality close to Megara or Aphrodite like in the TV series. The whole Disney Greek Pantheon is a good-humored parody after all since everyone is made likable. plus Disney Hades has this in common with the OG Hades, neither are exactly Mr Popularity XD
The devil thing always evaded me since Hades' deals are very, very straightforward. Sure he tends to tell them really fast (which is why I wrote it as a wall of text and interjections...), but he never steps back from what he promises.

Thank you, I also drew a Maui comparison if you're interested.

GryllidaeJGryllidaeJ In reply to devilkais [2017-12-08 02:09:59 +0000 UTC]

I always thought it was nice that he fell for someone so opposite his own demeanour. I mean he was one of the nicer ones, but it's very Death and the Maiden (probably one of the first instances actually).
That was one thing Disney zig-zagged on, Hades seemed to have a crush on Aphrodite which is somewhat similar to Persephone in that she's more of a 'good guy', but also Maleficent (if House of Mouse is cannon). I guess the girl in question just had to be hot haha

Oh yeah the devil thing was pretty superficial. In general it seems like Hades doesn't so much outright lie all the time as he withholds information, or talks about it in such a way that it's hard to follow. Sure he's still sneaky but there is a difference. It kinda seemed like he couldn't go back on a deal, as he couldn't control a deal being reversed. Almost like there was a higher power/form of rules that trumped even him.

Yes I saw the Maui comparison, I liked it! I just like talking about Hades :D (Big Grin)

If only the Disney Hercules followed the actual myths like the 12 Labors which the actual pronunciation is "Heracles"  Though I liked the Disney version of Hades thanks to James Woods. Since the real Zeus is a asshole of a rapist and Hera was the one who tried to murder Herc.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

devilkaisdevilkais In reply to PLCTheCd [2017-12-18 14:08:17 +0000 UTC]

The problem is that the 12 labors are a bit uneven in terms of epic quality. In fact the Disney take on the Hydra is actually the best that monster has ever been. When you see old paintings of the critter, the scale is pretty diminished. Then you have things like the bull of Crete or the stymphalian birds which are not all that impressive compared to earlier labors.
Plus while Disney Herc is a nice, unassuming yet resourceful guy (he caught up very quickly to the fact that Hades ALWAYS honors his part of the deal...), Heracles is a bit of an idiot who had some his lovers die due to his own dumbfuckery (like Abderos who discovered what horses do to oatmeal...)...

They are scaredy cats, they tended to be wary of any god really in the TV series. Initially I was going to draw Disney Cerberus but he was indeed way too big..even when he was a puppy !
