Description
Surreal - characterized by fantastic imagery and incongruous juxtapositionsSurrealist Pop Art - Influenced by the theories of the pioneer of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud, surrealistic pop images can be confusing and startling as those of dreams, having a realistic, though irrational style. They precisely describing dreamlike fantasy utilizing spontaneous technique, modeled upon the psychotherapeutic procedure of "free association" as a means to eliminate
conscious control in order to express the workings of the unconscious mind.

shot with 5 year old Dylan yesterday outside of a construction site – that is a pile of white gravel behind him. It was loud with traffic to the side and the construction trucks pouring the gravel behind him. I enjoyed the tire in the composition very much. It took great effort to talk him into taking his shirt off but then we set him free to just move around and react to the noise and turmoil around him. this was our favorite shot in the end.
i blended two layers of the same image in one layer of overlay mode and bumped levels to get a bit of intensity. the movement and noise and all that results comes from shooting what was going on at the moment. This is all 100% intentional yet 100% free – if you know what I mean.
yea its different than my “usual stuff” and I’m happy about that
wouldn’t this make a kick ass album cover?

It kind of hurts your soul to look at - the sort of softness of the youth, compared to the rough textured background. But it's a good kind of hurt, because it makes you say "yes, I do in fact have a soul".

This is so great Mary...I too love the tire in the background...and the blurriness of Dylan. It is so dreamlike, and so simple! Great work!!!

There's something about the boy's expression that is fantastic.

Very strange and enchanting at the same time. I really like the texture v smooth and the peculiar pose. Sort of gives me the creeps but I can't look away.

yes it DOES feel good to "color outside of the lines" (that phrase in itself is a fantastic photo concept to tackle
)
thank you

Definitely a great album cover. If U2 ever go back to having powerful images on the cover Dylan could replace the War boy.
^_^
This really works for me, and I'm picky about my surreal art. The selective focus & the way Dylan's all twisted up really have a lot of power.

The bleached feel is very excellent for this. It provides the right mood, I think, and really does tie in the "radioactive" element. The color and lighting of Dylan is also done quite well, too. The only thing that I would have perhaps changed, is that I would have gotten rid of the tire. I think with the blending of the gravel types in the foreground and the sudden change to white gravel, the tire just sticks out a bit too much. Almost like a second focus point.

I love this! It has such mystery - so intriguing and I cant help but just sit here and stare I love how stark and gritty the background is and the way you captured the movement with the child is perfect - definitely could be a CD cover! Terrific work Mary

I like this - it is different - but it makes me think of the way we can have such extreme reactions to things. The way in our minds we just cringe all over but not out loud - because its not proper. Still if we were young... we wouldnt think anything of it
And this would make an Awsome cover
